Hard pinions

Robinson stuff is color-anodized and that may have come off after a while, mine did but the pinion is still perfectly good. Other than that, the material is light-years harder than even the best plastic spur, which means you probably picked up sand.
If you need a super-pinion, steel pinions are available from Hobbyking.com, at reasonable prices as well... but you would need to buy a good number of them to counter the shipping cost from Hong Kong.

Robertson Racing makes Pinion gear kits with an assortment of different number of tooth gears. These kits are of a softer grade and only to be used to dial in your car. Once dialed in for performance and temps then you buy the hardened tooth gear that works best.
Many people buy these gear sets and expect them to perform great on a full time basis but then are disappointed when they don't last. But that wasn't what they were designed for.

I like my Yeah Racing ones. They come in a set and are reasonably priced. Hardly any wear.

LRP/GM pinions are best that I have used on 64p.
Mod.04 Tamiyas are great(and only ones I guess)
RW and Robinson are great also.
Kawada is good too...
no idea of 48p though, I have only used 64 and .04 gears.
