I am not the race director, but I would think that it will only be ROAR legal motors for 17.5

Guys,

Give us a day or 2 so we can see what's what. Eric has been following this closely. I don't want anyone taking action just yet.

Stay tuned.

And please, lets not debate this here. There are other threads for that.

thanks

michael.

Not debating. Just trying to find out if I need to drop another $90 on a motor so I can participate at this race. I realize this is not your doing. Just seeing if you guys are following ROAR's lead.

Thanks.

Don't have an answer just yet. We had an event at our track today so Eric was pretty much focusing on that yesterday and today. He has been following events and we'll get something out soon.

76 total entries so far, about 40 in VTA. Racer count also at about 40.

Word coming soon on the D3.5 mess.

Default Trinity D3.5

Regarding the use of the D3.5 for the 8th Annual USVTA Scale Nationals.

No decision like this is easy and not everyone will be happy.

The point of contention seems to be the size of wire used during approval inspection process and then subsequent production runs.

The spec states a maximum of 20 awg or .813mm. It does not state "whichever is the lesser" or stipulate it as a +.000/-.xxx tolerance,as I believe it was originally intended. Had the word "maximum" been after the .813mm dimension, it would be cut and dry.

The RC community was also notified on 10/15/12 that spot checks and a "new" approval process would be developed for brushless motors would be implemented, which we do not know the process, as the approval form has been removed from ROAR's website.

We do not know what or how the wire was checked up to the announcement from ROAR, nor does it matter. We also do not know what the minimum inductance/impedence value for a mfg motor should be, which is also part of it's specs. The approval process has changed and all motors should be re-evaluated.

The as originally submitted D3.5 will be legal for this race as well as Novak's 3617R (which has never appeared on the approved list). The "maxzilla" version and D3.5/RevTech hybrids will not be legal.

If you feel, you have to have this motor to be competitive, I will make some arrangements to have, on hand a few "rental" motors for this event.

Eric
How can one tell the difference between the original D3.5 and a "Maxzilla" version, they both look the same according to the Trinity website. The only difference I can see is the part number TEP1082 compared to TEP1082M which do not appear on the motor itself.

The only way to tell is to see which Rotor is in the motor.

The standard and original D3.5 will have the Purple rotor which is the standard 12.3mm stock Rotor. The Maxzilla version will have the light blue 12.5mm HT rotor in it.

Ah, Thanks ... both photos on the website show a purple rotor in each motor. And, I didn't read the description stating that the "Maxzilla" version has the HT rotor. my bad

Ummm, this just dawned on me ... the rotor has nothing to do with the ruling.

There is no way to tell the difference between TEP1082 compared to TEP1082M if I was to install a HT 12.5mm Roar Legal Rotor in the TEP1082. Which I am to believe that any rotor under 12.51mm is Roar legal for tuning rotors.
