Tamiya TA05 Touring Sedan
Hey guys,
I read through some of the pages here but since there are over 700 pages and I don't have that kind of time + searching on google, I have a few questions that I hope someone here could help me with.
Just wondering if the Tamiya 46mm universal shafts part #53847 will work on the front and back of a ta05 Version 2? Or will the rears require the 44mm shafts part #54077 with the tb-03 wheel axels part #54076? Also, I read somewhere that there is an issue with the rears? By that I mean you need more parts? It wasn't clear if they were refering to a ta05 or the ta05 v2.
Thanks,

i don't have a V2 yet, but i do know it has narrower arms than TA05 which uses 46mm shafts or the ta05-r, ifs-r which uses 48mm shafts. but do go out and buy the 44mm just yet. just letting you know what i know.
*edit*
was just on the tamiya website and found this page for ta05v2 upgrades... don't see any 44mm swing shafts but a few 46mm ones.
which would make sense since 44mm are for tb03 which uses a much wider bulkhead and diff outdrives.. I once tried to use a tbevo5 outdrives for my ta05 and noticed they were a good 4mm wider than the ta05 so the bearings mount were further out than the bulkhead allowed.

The rest of the TA05 arsenal....
from left to right in order of speed. TA05-R, TA05, TA05 ifs-R
TA05-R running a Mamba Max Pro 7700kv with a 3S 3000mah 40C Lipo. This chassis is for top speed runs. GPS'd @ 142kph. trying to hit 150+.
TA05 SSG chassis more updated than the last pic.. it now has blue titanium turnbuckles, and carbon bumper support. pretty much a shelf queen now.
Ta05 ifs-R running a yeah racing Falsonic 60A ESC with 6000kv motor. this is the chassis I use to race TC open with.

using the stock tamiya spur that came w/ the ta-05 and the 3racing chassis, my spur gear sticks out of the bottom of the chassis by about 1/8 inch.
i cannot raise it.
i need a smaller spur.
the local carpet track wont let me run it for fear i will rip up the carpet.
what do you suggest?
i have to dump the castle 5700 and run a 17.5spec setup anyhow so i will need to buy new spur and pinion.
thanks

i honestly dont know. i have never ran a touring car. i bought this and built it as a shelf queen but i think id like to run it at local track this winter
Using a 17.5 novak w/ a 88T 64p Spur & this chart
http://www.comeseethis.com/gearing/Default.aspx
You'll need a 57T 64P pinion to get a 3.47 FDR ideal is 3.5
The trick will be determining how small a spur gear you need so it does extend pass the chassis. Look at the Kimbrough Spurs they come in a lot of sizes

would i be best to use a pair of calipers and measure the spur i currently have?
Sure.
Measure the spur diameter & subtract 2x the amount it extends pass the bottom of the chassis. This will give you the maximum diameter spur you can use, then off to the LHS with your calipers. Get a 64p. I run an 88T but I use the stock chassis.

Hey guys, I was just wondering what a good substitute for the diff oil for the ball bearing diffs would be? Im new to onroad so not very knowledgable. Would regular black grease work fine? I was just trying to figure out what to use seeing how i was about to use AE diff oil but figured that the thickness might affect the car's performance, or how the diff would react. So i thought i would just ask and save me the hassle of tearing it apart again. Im going to be running on carpet if that helps any.
Thanks

was just wondering of anyone can help me arrive at a suitable spur/pinion combo to obtain a 58mm rollout for our local club.
anyone running this range of rollout at there club. Our local club is using the Speed Passion Cirtrix with V2 21.5 whihc has replaced 540 class, and rollout is 58mm.
was just wondering what pitch would be suitable and if i'm limited by size.
any information would be appreciated.

I've got mine with a Tekin 21.5 running at 35/68 I think, with 48p gears. It's not quite 58 but it's getting up there, about 52-53 I think... Just drop the spur down a few more teeth and you should be close enough to 58.
