Post Getting up to a weight limit.....

after the Nationals in NZ I notice in the stock class (540 motors +1500mah batteries) many people had to add weight to their cars to get them up to the limit.

Some had to add as much as 100+ grams (myself about 70). Just wondering if perhaps for this class only the weight limit should be reduced as some chassis don't exactly make it easy to place (or balance) all that lead?

Either that or try and find heavier parts not lighter ones. lol

it's 1500 grams in the 540 stock class but like in the example I gave I still had to add like 70 grams to my CGM. Ended up having to tape the weight to the inside of the body because I ran out of room.

Aluminum screws will get you where you want to be in a hurry....but are pretty risky. You could probably get away with it in On-Road, but not off-road.

My TC4 weighs 1490 grams on foam tires with all the carbon parts on it. It would be over your weight limit on rubber.

The 1500 cells are probably where most of the weight is lost. Why do they run those old cells?

To keep the costs down (as much as possible) to run that class.

I'm sure that's the problem. 3300's are the heaviest cells out as far as I know. 1500 Nicd's are going to be considerably lighter and the cars are designed to be as light as possible to compensate for the heavy 3300's most people run. If they make you run those light, low capacity cells, they should lower the min weight accordingly.

You can do like the pros, after making the weight, you put your car down on the track and palm the weights.

UHHH.. weight is to be checked directly after the race... That is why you always wanna start out a little on the heavy side with foams....

Belive it or not, you loose weight with rubbers too. Not as much but I was light after a practice run at Reedy last year when I was right on weight before. I was also just under roof height. That's how close I was

Yep, you don't realise how much heavier modern cells are...

Last year I borrowed a Hpi Pro4 for my return to racing. I was using old 2000's and got quite a shock when the car was so underweight - I ran out of room on the chassis so i ended up having this long row of weights stuck down the middle of the top deck
