i dun thing that will be open alum bulk head like TB EVO 4 MS.
because Pro 4 gear box look very narrow and if you want to change the alum bulk head i think mostly will also change the shock tower

I am making myself some alloy gearboxes at the moment, Im trying to make like a cage through and around the existing gearbox for looks but its seems like it wont be stiff enough. Might make some lexan covers for it.

Are there problems with having an open gearbox with a shaft drive like rocks between teh gears?

I don't think it should be A problem when you're driving on A track.
It could be A problem when you're driving on A parking lot.
1/12th, pro10, F1 and other direct driven cars always have open gears and the often are very close to the surface, so you could drive without gear covers.

but if you wan to prevent that prevent gear strip you can used the square racing aluminium one way gear and the newest pro 4 2005 spec 1 piece input shaft so i think it shouldent be a problem to strip for your whole life.

@Guo Chean:
If someone does like you are suggesting their car wil sound like a fresh, out of the box TC3 with wrong diff-shimming. Leave the aluminium and steel for nitro cars. The one-piece input-shaft is nice though.

At least it would not bring gear strip if you wrong shim or get some rock inside the gear box
