Spec-R R1

I think this is the reason for quite a bit of slop..
Check out the attached photo - the washer doesn't sit snug.

It's saying there are 2 different sizes? The manual says they are both the same size. The other red washers that came with the kit do not fit in the steering block so I'm a bit confused lol.

- Add some shims to the main pivots until the steering arms cannot move vertically (keep a minimum gap, about 0.005mm)
- Change the micro bearing in the steering joint, original ones have a lot of axial slop
- Adjust the shims under the washers you talked about. Actually, I reduce their thickness to minimize axial slop...

The system won't let me attach a pdf file for some reason so I converted into a jpg file. The S1 uses fixed hinge pin holders unlike the R1 which are adjustable. I also use the alloy layshaft bulkheads which require washers on top to fill the gap between the top deck. I am also using the optional alloy steering servo mount and not the two plastic mounts that come in the kit.

I've tried to keep my S1 as close to stock as possible. I've considered upgrading my bulkheads to the red alloy version, but they won't make my car any faster so I haven't bothered. Besides, it's a hoot to watch other racer's eyes bug out when they drop into my pit area to find they were whooped by a fiberglass/plastic car.

Well i raced my Spec-R S1 for the first time last night. The car is much better than the driver, that is for sure. Had a bit of a battle to fit foams on it, as we race out doors on bitumen in a foam spec class and my car was setup for rubber that i use to practice on, i was way out on setup, well first half the night was good, but once the dew hit, i was struggling.
Learned a lot about the car in my 5 races, and everyone who took the time to look at the car was very impressed. Multi time national champion pulled a few laps on it at the break, just to help me with setup and to make sure it was not the car and that it was me, and his comments were, that is really comfortable to drive and quite easy.
All in all, it is a good little car.
