SERPENT COBRA GT ENGINE CHOICES HELP!
Hey guys, first off, i will start off by saying im glad to be a member of this forum and appreciate the great wealth of knowledge here. You guys rock!
Ok, on to the question, I am in the budget to buy a 1/8 gt car and i really like what i see in the serpent. What are some good engine choices? I've seen some people say that .21's dont have enough torque and .28's are too torquey and dont rev high enough? I'm confused as to what will perform well. I have a big block jato now with an os 21xz-r speed on it. I'm a speed junkie so i need something that will really get this car moving. I only bash around my neighborhood street but i dont care about the price. Here are what i've seen so far:
Novarossi Roma .25
Novarossi Keep on .21
Novarossi Flash .21 Rally
Novarossi 35 Plus .21
O.S. 21XZ-B Speed
O.S. 25XZ
O.S. 28XZ
If you have any more suggestions I will take those into consideration also. Thanks! You guys are the best.

I'm looking for all-out speed and torque. Thanks in advance.

Do you have any experience with this engine? How's the torque curve and top end?

I want to keep it to stock engines as well. So the best recommendation for a stock engine that will give me the most power down low and up top is what I'm looking for.

Personally I like the OS25 but I’ve raced the Roma also. As far as our tracks go the Roma and OS25 run neck and neck and stomp pretty much everything else here power wise on the straights. One caution I’d throw your way is the torque of these 25s, if you are not 100% planted these engines will slow you down while you chase the rear end of your car. Personally I’ve made the move to Novarossi 21s. With the heavier car I can pin it right out of the corner and not have to worry about the rear loosing traction and spinning out. The 21 Flash is an amazing powerplant. I personally run a Novarossi 21 5 port that was 199.99 and a Novarossi 35 Plus Tuned .21. Both engines pack enough power and top end without getting me in trouble on the bottom. You should also consider gearing a 25 for top end so you don’t have so much torque. Hope this info helps! If you are looking for a scary beast of an engine IN NOVAROSSI WE TRUST go for that ROMA and hang on! It will bring a smile to your face

Roma .25 is looking good from what I've seen so far, based on the specs it's a dang good contender..
Keep em coming guys!

I put a Roma in my boss's GT and a Bonito in a co-workers. Go with the Bonito! Even with an 086 its instantly on the pipe. Crazy smooth power band. The torque is really just a shade less than a .25, it's uncanny! To me both the OS25 and the Roma have way too much of a light switch feel. Whereas the Bonito is butter smooth, and the Bonito doesn't give up power to anything! It's nutty quick! The Flash Rally is ok, crazy top end punch, but no bottom. Check out the Kappo Rally for something with more RPM compared to the Bonito. It's just an updated Kangaroo. The Keep On would be a waste of $$$ in a GT car. You'll find with any 9 port .21 that you'll have to gear down to get the torque you need, sacrificing mileage.

Just speaking theoretically, I bet an Alpha A872 would be good. Known to be a tad soft-ish on bottom in buggy, but to have a never-ending top... How much does a Serpent GT weigh anyway? Assuming a tad lighter than a race-ready bug...
Alphas IMO are underrated just cuz they're not Japanese. They make big power though, are easy to tune, and last long.. And oh yeah they're not overpriced.. With the 2090 pipe too you have even more adjustability with the changeable stingers... Just a thought.. Bit of talk of bad bearings in the Novarossi thread too

Wow! So .25's are on/off motors, on road .21's are sluggish off the bottom, nova bonito 7 port or kappa rally! This is good info. I see the kappo has less hp than the bonito but more rpm? Alpha anyone

Alpha also has a very reasonably priced .23 which is meant to be a screamer - on top end.. Torque is a given.. (especially with an 0801 pipe..)
