thanks guys...I've been an HPI fan for a long time. Yeah, I wish parts are more readily available. But I still like HPI/Hotbodies

I think parts have gotten better. I can easily scroll through an online shop and find what I need. As far as performance, the car is still just as fast as any other brand.

honestly, I haven't looked for parts in a while I have a ton stashed away. I know in the past that's been the biggest bash against the chassis.. well, parts and the fact its not updated every year

all the chassis (minus the awesomatix) share the same designs anymore...I don't think its a point of one chassis being leaps above the others anymore (again, not counting the awesomatix)

Just ordered my HB TCXX!
I will run it with a hobbywing v3.1 120A/ reedy sonic mach2 13.5T.
My hometown track is indoor carpet medium size low traction (Corally testtrack Netherlands)
Is 24T a good pinion to start with?
I come from Tamiya M03 so this will be my first tc.
Do you guys have building tips or things to give special attention?

I will appreciate it!

best bet is to ask what FDR others are running at this track. the kit comes with a 115t spur, would give you a FDR of 9.3 - which sounds really high, even for 13.5

Which pinion would you advise?

hate to say this, but I don't know. it'll all depend on the layout - is it tight/technical or wide open/flowing - so there isn't a 'run this and you'll be good everywhere' pinion.

its not like running the M03, you have multiply options for gearing in the TCXX

that's why I said its better to ask the guys running there what they would advise as a good FDR (final drive ratio) to start with. the FDR is something that can be passed from one chassis to another, as long as you know the calculation:

spur gear/pinion gear * 1.95

to find the pinion you'd need, do this calculation:

spur gear * 1.95 / FDR -- that will tell you the number of teeth you need on your pinion

that way, for example, a xray driver can tell you they're running a FDR of 4.5 - so you just need a calculator (or app on your phone) to figure out what'll get you close to that

Thanks I understand thats it's not that easy for you to tell.
I just wanted something to start out with so i wouldn't burn my motor.
Something safe so temperature stays low.
but it's a tight/technical track.
I appreciate your input

probably something in the 5.6 FDR range would be safe.

I bought my tcxx used. After i made all the changes you recommended I realized I had a 6 hole piston on all shocks. I've been filling it with losi 35's. I'm such a dumbass..hahaha

I use 6 hole for asphalt with losi 90wt. I suggest you find the 3 hole piston

96 spur 41 pinion = 4.56 FDR that should be a safe starting point for 13.5.
just curious what brand motor?

I too have just purchased a tcxx and will be running it in 13.5 blinky class.
What is the smallest 64dp spur you can fit on there and still get a mesh. Im looking at running around 4 / 4.5 to 1 overall ratio.

Any help would be appreciated. Thank you in advance.

96 spur covers 17.5 and 13.5 gearing
