Pauly you can't use a 21.5 motor. 25.5 is the motor limit. Check the first page and second post for all rules and information.

Out of the three Novak motors we are supposed to run which one is the better out of the three.

Thanks Chris

That's what I initially thought, but everyone in Southern California runs 21.5 in this class. I originally purchased a 25.5 but had to go out and get a Turnigy 21.5 because of this. And yes, everyone in California are Outlaws, apparently!

Each one runs about the same, but I'd take the Ballistic or the Boss because of their modular construction and the non-integrated sensor cable. The permanently attached cable on the SS will eventually leave you with a useless motor if it breaks, and can't be adjusted to the proper length without a lot of effort.

Hey Pauly - not sure on the motor you mentioned...but do you have the timing on the motor cranked to max? When running the Novak 21.5, or the Assoc/Reedy 21.5 I notice a huge rpm change in the last little bit of timing...so be careful there... If full timing isn't used GEAR UP a bunch (4-5 teeth or more) run a couple minutes, check the temp and lap times...work from there. (Some TC's you just can't hardly get enough gear - I don't know HOW those True 25.5 VTA guys do it!!) Oh yea I do - they run smaller tighter tracks!!! LOL

Ha ha! Sometimes it's pretty painful on the larger asphalt layouts our clubs set up here in CenTx. I mean, going down the back straight we can check our email or send texts.

*Disclaimer: I don't text and drive.

SWTour, I should try adjusting the timing first, because I don't think I will be able to hit the FDR I need with just the gearing alone. That's a good idea. I'll adjust the timing first, and then work my way from there based on motor temps.

According to the us/vta rules numbers have to be on the doors hood and trunk lid correct?. I have noticed on the us/vta paint thread that some bodys that the racers have painted do not have numbers on the doors. So is the number rule a iron clad rule or is it by track to track rules?

Local club-style racing, not really. Big, officially sanctioned events are a different deal...

Anyone running an XRAY T4-14 in VTA care to share their set-up.

Question about Novak Boss 25.5 motor.

I was servicing mine this weekend. I opened it up and took out the front bearing and cleaned it and re-oiled it. I couldn't get the rear one out so I just oiled it. The rotor had 1 shim on the back and 2 on the front when I removed it. I made sure I got it back the same. When testing it by running it with the ESC and no pinion it seemed to be pretty loud all by itself. It had kind of a "card in the spokes" sound. Could I have done something wrong re-assembling it? Any ideas?
