Somebody once said "be careful about what you wish for." I purchased a Cirtix Stock Club race + Ultra Sportsman 25.5T motor Combo. I put the combo in my VTA to test it and found out my car was going much slower than before. I gave the motor to my roommate who was able to test it with his SkyRC BMC-01 Brushless Motor Checker. His motor checker showed my S.P. 25.5 motor had about 1223 Kv. We tested a Novak Ballistic 25.5 motor in the BMC-01 Checker and it showed the Ballistic had about 1542 Kv. The Ballistic motor has +319 Kv advantage over the S.P. 25.5 motor.

Moral of this story ... You get what you pay for.

You touch on the reason why USVTA rules call out only 1 manufacturer of motors, Novak. If you ever compare two 25.5 turn brushless motors made by two different manufacturers, you will find that each motor has a different power output. Like in your example the Novak Ballistic 25.5 has approx. 1550 Kv while the Speed Passion 25.5 has approx. 1220 Kv. I also know that the Trinity D3 25.5 motor has approx. 1800 Kv. So you can imagine that if the USVTA motor list were to be open to any make 25.5 turn motor, the most competitive VTA drivers would eventually figure out which motor has the highest Kv output and drive up the demand for that motor. So in most cases, the higher the motor's Kv gets, the more money it costs you to buy one. It's the whole "supply and demand" thing.

I agree with you up until that last part about supply and demand being tied to KV. Look at the the D3, the Tekin Gen2's, RevTech's etc etc in 17.5 and generally all other motors in the same league. They are are $89 for any KV.

That said, 1 motor does make things easy!

When MFG's release these Kv numbers what timing are going by? Does a D3.5 make 1800 Kv at 0 degrees or 45 degrees or both? Are these motor ratings about the same as the C ratings on some of these batteries?

Kv isn't the whole picture, especially when you are comparing two motors with the same number of turns. Kv doesn't have anything to do with the amount of actual power the motor has. Power is what does work, not Kv. The most you can take away from solelythe differing Kv is that you will need to gear them differently. To make any other statement about them will require more information.

Just asking did you adjust the timing on the SP motor before you ran it on the machine? Ultra Sportsman motors do have adjustable timing but its not marked on the can like the Novak motor. So if you didnt adjust the timing and just ran it against a turned up Novak its not shocking thats what you saw with your results. If you still have the SP motor turn up the timing on it and see what it does just to see I would be interested in knowing.
