How can I charge an 8 cell pack with a 7 cell charger?

I just got some new energizer AA 2500mah rechargables from wal-mart , 8 for $16 to use in my TX / Transmitter.

How can I charge 8 cells with a 7 cell charger (novak ionic ac/dc). Can I just pull out 4 batteries and do one group at a time till I charged them all.

I already have the adapter for my battery tray on a futuba 3pjs. Can I just select 7 cells or would that be bad? Does the tray still keep a circuit if only 4 batteries are in there and how would you set them in there? In a row , every other?

Im just wondering whats possible. Thanks.

Charge 4 at a time.

Mount them in your current tray and follow the connection of batteries. They shall be in a row, also called serial.

Thank you for your response. So basically find where the wire leads first. Then start from there and go 4 back in serial?

What would happen if I tried to run a 7cell charge on a full 8cell pack?

Also just a quick question. Should I discharge the NIMH energizers or does it not really matter. Also I should charge these at 1amp right?

Tnanks.

Just charge all 8 at one time, at 1 amp or less. You don't need to discharge them, as they don't retain any memory.

Charge all 8?? I have a 7 cell charger. So leaving it on 7 would be ok with the 8 cell pack?

Even though NiMh is said to not have any memory effect, they DO perform better, if completely discharged once in a while. Personally, I always discharge and completely charge my TX cell before a big race. Better be sure...

1 amp is good for charging.

I wouldnt try to exceed the Ionic limitations, you may damage your charger.

You are right about the way to connect them.

Yeah Im not sure if they have nimh 8 cell wall chargers that are inexspensive.

I have a nice charger that can also do better than a wall charger. So im trying to see what can be done with my exsisting setup. Not something that I could of course buy.

Hi,

I use my $450.00 Pro Trak to Charge my 8 cell plane batteries, it's no biggy. The issue you may have is your input voltage to your charger, my charger reccomends a 12-14V input so I cranked my power supply up to 13.8V. NiMh's peak during charge at slightly over 1.5v 8 x 1.5 is 12v so a power supply at exactly 12v probably will have trouble as your charger may trying to give more volts than it's getting in which usually does not work very well.

All of this aside, the biggest issue is your warranty, do you want invalidate it assuming that it is still current? I do not see any problems and have not had any, I've charged my plane cells and transmitter cells many times, this is something only you can decide for yourself.

Chris.

Im guessing your 450 dollar charger also can charge an 8 cell pack? Or are you saying its a 7 cell charger as well, and you go ahead and charge 8 cell packs.

Im guessing set on 7 cell battery mode for charge the 8cell pack would come up not as charged as it would output the reading for a 7cell setup much earlier?
