After a while, my other car started eating belts at an alarming rate. This was after Hours of run time though. The pulleys(AL.) didn't look that bad either. I'll post up a closeup pic when I get back from the Auto Show...Put new plastics on and ran new belts for the last 3rd of our season. Another 4-5 hrs. of running. All this on a clean, treated track with only a few bumps here and there. I did have some extra time at a big race and drilled "weep" holes in my plastic pulleys for any dirt, foam, etc to get out. Can't just sit there!!
And yet changing belts are just too expensive.what a pickle. Will check aluminum pulleys prices first thanks

The alloys are expensive but worth it!! My advice if budget is kinda tight start with the diff pulleys first and then work on the smaller ones. I really like them and definitely smooth out and help free up the transmission together with the low friction belts.

Def flip the belt tensioner as Nitrobeast said. I would add to that battery choice and wiring in general. Lucky for you these issues were already bought up and addresed thoroughly with pictures on this thread. Check page 50 of this thread. That was my fix. but there are many many more thorough out this thread as well.
Hope this helps

1st gear side to side play
Question Guys,
Have anyone here had problems with the first gear side to side play between 2nd gear and the c-clip?
When I hold the car in my hand I can pull and push the 1st gear in and out. And under throttle the 1st gear moves outward, but yet the mesh between the 1st and pinion gear is fine. Any ideas on how to fix it? Thanks in advance!

Thanks, I just put shims on the back of the cone on the engine as mentioned on page 18 of this thread, but I'm not to comfortable with that set up. I like your idea better. Do you know what size shims fit behind the rear-inside pulley? If not I'll call Desoto tomorrow.
