What has been everyones first rc car?

Around 1984 got a Tamiya Hornet together with a Futaba Attack stick radio including Futaba servos, followed by Kyosho Optima around 1986, using the same Attack radio and servos. Still have the Optima and Attack radio/servos, all still full functional. The Optima was upgraded with an original complete set of ball bearings, original Kyosho gold aluminum motor cover, Tamiya 1600mah 8,4v NiCD (insane power back then!), Kyosho Le Mans Gold 480 motor. It was the fastest RC-car in my local area back then.
I have often considered giving the Optima a full renovation. I have found remakes of the body and wheels on Ebay, which would be a good place to start.
But I still need a few parts, that I can only find as original parts, which makes them pretty expensive and rare/hard to find (for ex. the fibre top radio plate or what ever it is called).

My first "real" RC car was a Tamiya Wild Willy in the early 80's, dad had to help me put it together. I remember using one of his huge Futaba airplane radios for it. That truck was SO awesome and far better than the Sears RC cars I had previously.
The addiction was set in by that point, after that I had a: Hornet, Optima, original RC10, Hobby Lobby Hunter (1/8th nitro), got out for a few years, then Kyosho Burns (1/8th nitro).

my first rc car was the original kyosho ultima. i remember the sound it made when the aluminium chassis bottomed out after it jumped the speed bumps in my apartment complex. the red shocks sucked but it was awesome. wish i still had it. it's great to see that kyosho hasn't abandoned the ultima line

Well technically speaking the first RC I ever owned was a (Dating myself) Tyco Blaster that "Santa" brought me back in the 80's. It was the funnest toy ever and I loved that thing and drove it to pieces, literally. Then I grew up and didn't do any RCing at all until the end of last year. I went out to photograph a motocross event and saw some guys running "hobby grade" RC's on a track they had out there. A guy let me take his Slash around the track a couple of times and that was it, it was all over, I was hooked all over again.
I went out and bought a Slash right away, now I have Losi NightCrawler, a Blitz and as soon as the tax man cometh, I'll build my first kit in a FT SC10. Best hobby ever, so glad I fell into it. Just good clean fun!

Hornet and Fox.
I now have 3 Foxes including that original runner, an immaculate shelfer and a backup.
The Hornet came to an unfortunate demise after charging the battery in the car with no cutoff on the charger...was great while it lasted back in '86.
Cheers

My first car was the Tamiya Rough Rider, which i converted to a Sand Scorcher VW Bug. I lost it in my many moves. However I also bought at the same time, one of the first ever rc motorcycles. the company later became Kyosho. I still have it and have the original box.
My first race car was the Tamiya Road Wizard.
Took a 7 year break, bought only rtrs, Assoc. SC8 ran once still in the box. Slash raced 3 times sold it,
bought the then new Slash 4x4. raced twice. this year bought a Slayer, still in the box never run.
recently updated my Slash 4x4 , MMP sc 3800, SSC LCG chassis. Proline shocks still testing with this.
Also planning to return to Tamiya TCS racing, wish list is a TA06.

The first car that I could recall by name was the Nikko Turbo Lobo II. In fact there are 3 of them in my parents attic, all are broken in some form or other but were a blast, especially going into Turbo mode.
I remember getting a bunch of different RC's growing up but nothing Hobby Grade. My first Hobby Grade RC was an RC10GT bought new around 1998, still have it.

Years later mid 1980's, I moved on to a Kyosho Wildcat, huge fun, then a Kyosho Optima, more huge fun and on and on and on . . .
