some bulbs are weird some do have positive and negative. 90% of the time of those funky bastards the shell is pos and the black/silver bottom is negative. ive fried a couple batts with those reversed

damn. thats random . if your using car headlight/taillight bulbs, i suggest smotheing the bottom of the case thingy (the dimple thingy) with epoxy, that metal part pulls out after a while

I say forget tring to make one. Racers edge has a great discharger that is also a real car stand. It runs like $25.00 which is probably close to what you will end up spending on making one yourself. I made one myself and then after burning the junk out of Myself. I bought one of the Deans which by the way is awsome. Well the 30amp one is awsome. Most of the time I use my Novak discharge tray once I finish a run. If the pack still has a desenct amount I put it on my Integy/Eagle CDC or the Gm Commander first to bring it down. I would total suggest the Racers edge One. It doesn;t get in the way like the deans did. Also if you are just trying to make a simple one. It is better to have at least 20amps of discharge as to condition your packs. IMO

i plan to build a bulb discharger this weekend and would like a little help from you guys :
1. how many bulbs shall i use? i read somewhere that a single bulb pulls 2 amps, so ill need 10 bulbs for a 20 amp discharger, right?
2. i will use 12v automotive bulbs. shall i use a single or double contact bulb? is there a difference in their amp draw?
3. if i use a double contact bulb, how do i wire it? i know i have to wire them parallel but how do i do it? do i wire both the contacts at the bottom of the bulb together with all the other bulbs to the negative lead?
i found my old deans black box 2 and i will be using this as a cutoff device

The number of lamps depend on what discharge rate you want. 12v 25w automotive gives around 2 amps (more like 1.5 i think).
If u run stock u might wanna 20 amp discharge.
If u run modified some people might say u should have something like 30 amps. Personally i have 40+45W 12v automotive head lamp with +-6 amp discharge. I usually run my packs till they are almost dead, so there's no point in having higher discharge rate.
I like it this way because too many lamps become clumbsy.

thanks for the info
after some digging through my stuff i found an old mag that has an article on this. ill make one out of 10 double contact bulbs. im only running 23T stock so ill stick with approx 20amps.

Part number 1157 for the automotive bulbs. They are a dual element bulb which draws approximately 2 amps per bulb. The way my bulb discharger is wired the positive in the tabs on the bottom of the bulb and the negative is just soldered to the side of the bulb socket.. Hope this helps.

thanks for the reply just finished building the thing. i had to make an aluminum shroud over the bulbs because they're too bright
