Good servos and tires first. Then maybe an engine down the rode...

The S8 Rebel BX?

I have just tested one for a magazine. Yes, I do think it is race worthy but only the .25 isn't, with buggy's only .21 or smaller is alowed.
The only disadvantage is adjusting the ride height with clips.

The S8 BX rtr is a good buggy for getting started and definitely race-worthy. The drive train is near bulletproof, and with a few simple upgrades it's a good proposition. This would be my rough priority order for the s8 bx (assuming it is well built, maintained etc, diffs flushed and fluid filled) :

1. Servos - usually #1 upgrade on any rtr, specially steering
2. Tyres to suit local track conditions
3. Stock pullstart engine will get you going but sooner or later you'll want more power. The new lrp zz ceramic is a screamer
4. The option big bore shock and tuning springs
5. The dual piston brake upgrade
6. Alloy rear suspension mount (front mount for rear suspension) .

Alternately, pick up a second hand 'race' buggy rather than taking the lrp through the upgrade process.
