I was going some research last night between the Tamiya M05 and M06 as I really would like to get a Mini chassis.

While I know the M06 is newer then than M05 and seems to have a lower COG, the M05 seem more appealing to me for some reason. Just when I though I had my heart set, I came across a link of what appears to be an AWD M chassis.
Ta05 M Four. I presume it is not out yet? Does anyone have any more information on it?

In most cases this will not be legal in M chassis racing unless it is specified that it is M size TC racing.

The M Four is a Limited Edition (very likely Japan only) chassis that uses a 380 size motor and will only accomodate LiFe 6.6v battery packs.

It is NOT a mainstream M chassis car by any means.

Just buy an M05 - problem solved

I wonder if it makes sense to get a M05 pro, or a kit with body and upgrade the shocks. I noticed the pro kit comes with some clear plastic shocks? - are those TRF? they can't be too durable can they?

Is there such thing as a carbon chassis (like there is for the TA06) BTW you site is very informative.

Have a look at the Mini Cooper thread. There's a post that recommends the S-Spec. I'd go with either the S-Spec or the Pro kit, but replace the shocks. You'll need a body with either kit though..

thanks for the link. I am trying to really discern what the difference between the two is. Honestly I do not like the chrome chassis. I wonder if anyone would want to buy it off of me.

No problem.. honestly I didn't want to go chrome either, but after seeing that it's a matte-ish chrome and not bright shiny chrome it's not too bad and I elected to keep it.

You can try stripping the chrome - I put the wheels in a bath of Zepp Purple Industrial cleaner in an ultrasonic cleaner and it had the chrome all off in about 5 minutes.

re which M05... rc-mini hasn't been updated to reflect latest developments
but imho if you wish to get into racing without budget constraints,
start with a M05 S-spec kit, add TRFs & CVDs.



M chassis tubs are only molded out of ABS plastic

only parts which are done in GF (glassfibre) reinforced resin
can have a CF reinforced stiffer version for added profit margin.

The wheelbase is 210mm and from the pictures it appears that most M specific bodies will fit. So in terms of the chassis specs it should be allowed to run in the M-chassis 4wd class. Where you'll run into problems is with the electronics. It's already been mentioned that it will require a 380 sized motor and LiFE pack. I haven't seen or heard of that combo being used in any of the club/regional/national/world event.

What really bothers me is the placement of the servo and the battery. It should've been flipped, servo mounted in the middle and the LiPO pack strapped in the rear of the car. The TA05 VDF (and other high end belt driven drift chassis) is designed this way and allows the pack to stick out of the chassis. Hopefully, an aftermaket company will release a lower deck to move the servo up towards the front allowing us to strap a LiPO shorty pack in the rear. The way it sits now if the battery is too long it'll hit the servo/steering linkage.

I wonder though if tamiya or anyone else develop and optional mount for a normal motor?

This cart being referred to as a new racing chassis, so maybe tamiya will add a class to the tcs?

I don't think this car has any future outside of Tamiya's own races, and probably not even outside of Japan since nobody else in the world runs the small LiFe packs - I don't think they are even imported into the UK.

4wd Mini has been around for a while and has never really taken off as a racing class... I suspect the cars are just too similar to a 190mm tourer. A 2wd Mini drives differently and can only cope with limited power, this is what makes them fun and interesting.

Even if this Tamiya could run 540 motors and standard sized packs, I doubt it could compete with the ABC Genetic (for example). The Tamiya M-chassis suspension geometry puts a significant limit on performance.
