Default which kit is best?

i've heard alot of great things about the ta04 from this thread, and i'm interested in getting one (mainly so i can run the track @ aliso viejo). i'm currently using a tc3 (factory team). i was hoping someone could tell me which ta04 kit is the most comparable to the tc3 factory team version. i'm looking for aluminum threaded shocks and as much graphite parts as possible. i'd like the kit that would have the most upgraded parts. also, what else would i need to stay on par with my tc3?

thanks fellas!

What do you want to race? Stock or Mod?

Also...do you want to race Tamiya Championship Series races?

If you want to run TCS races, then the TA04R is the one to go...it has graphite molded chassis, and woven graphite top plate...no other graphite pieces...for stock, use the kit chassis...if running MOD, upgraded to the woven graphite saddle pack chassis.

If you don't want to race TCS series, but want to race MOD, then the Tamiya 414M is the way to go...Woven graphite chassis, top plate, shock towres, aluminum bulk heads, threaded aluminum shocks, front one way, mid one way...all in one kit...adds up to be much less than a TA04R kit with the front and mid oneways and the graphite shock towers (but you get all the extras...)...but this car is not TCS legal...

If you don't want to race TCS and want to race STOCK...keep your Factory Team TC3...

I havea TC3 as well as my 04R...TC3 is probably a little quicker in stock...and I"ve been told the 414M is the way to go for MOD.......

414M in stock too! I've beaten enough TC3's to say that. Although TC3 are quick in stock. I did have one but I race my 414M now. To me the 414 is easier to drive. My opinion.

Yes...the 414M would be a good choice in stock...BUT...he already has a FACTORY TEAM TC3...so it would be of little advantage to go to the 414M....

If you're not planning to race TCS...stick with your TC3...it's a great car...but if you just want a new toy....the 414M is the car to get...you'll probably find yourself switching over....but parts tend to be a little more expensive

Aurra Sing,

Your 04R is pretty much a 414M with all those hop-up on.

By the way, I wonder if I can switch the bottom chassis plate in the TCS events, so I can race in both GT1 and GT2 class????

1 MAJOR difference between his 04R and a 414M...

The aluminum bulkheads....and the carbon lower chassis is different than the TA04 Woven Carbon Saddle Chassis

Do both cars (04 and 414M) have the same suspension geometry? If they do, then that would make the handling of the two very similar. Since they share the Arms, Hubs, Uprights, etc, they look the same. But i'm not sure if the shock tower positions are in the same measurements.

Maybe I should say pretty much "like" a TRF414M. the suspension geometry of a 414M is different from the TA04R I think. And of course all the difference that neons pointed out.

The 04 series is actually based on the suspension of the 414, not the 414M, the suspension of the 414M is slightly different to the 04's, so it handles high speed cornering in mod racing a little better.

Default What easily gets damaged?

Hello,
What parts do you guys frequently replace on your 04? So far I have replaced
a) Resin suspension arms - broke once
b) Hinge Pins - bent after crash which broke a)
c) "Rod Guides", part number AO-5003

Pretty minimal in about 2months plus of driving this car...

Joined a race today, and have just finished striping the car. Damage seems pretty minimal - a wheel hex got deformed, and the 2 rod guides on both my front trf shocks got damaged. Again. Apart from that the car is basically in once piece. Chassis got tweaked slightly in one of the mains, but thanks to a pal I got it back more or less to usual specs.

Do let me know!

Thanks.

Regards,
Alvin

I haven't broken anything yet, i've used it for two races only so far. But I replaced the car with the strongest parts possible, so while i'm driving, I do not need to worry about anything breaking. Such parts include hard suspension arms, a few captured links, and titanium turnbuckles.

Have you noticed after installation of the hard arms the car becomes less responsive, i.e. assuming no changes are made to the suspensino setup?

No, not really. I haven't tested the plastic ones yeat, though, I immediately switched to the hard ones.

Even though, I feel the car is very responsive to setup changes. Once, I just made a change from a medium stabilizer to the very thin stabilizer and it made a noticable difference.

This is because the harden suspension arms reduces unwanted flex in the car which allows finer adjustments in setup to be seen.

Try setting your car's suspension a bit softer if you feel that its less responsive. This is because the flexing of the plastic arms absorbs some of the shocks received by the dampers. Changing the shock towers to the graphite pieces will have similar effects.
