It's cool to experience driving different motor drivetrain combinations in r/c cars:

FF
FR
RR
AWD/4WD

Some tracks or clubs have front wheel drive class. Also most tracks probably willing to let you run FF in sedan class. Long time ago, there were people running rc10 dual sport which was RR in the sedan class.

Any car with 4 wheel independent suspension, and the appropriate dimensions, is an IFMAR legal touring car, doesn't matter whether it is 4WD, FWD or RWD.

The 2WDs even have a lighter weight limit under IFMAR regs, since they have less weight in the drive train. The reason behind the weight limit is to discourage exotic materials, not give an advantage to one platform over another, and since 2WDs are naturally lighter, that's fair.

In slower classes, on certain tracks, 2WDs are the ticket.

its just a shame about the 4 wheel independent part other wise it would be good to see pan cars mix it up with tourers

The rule is there specifically to stop pan cars from racing with the Tourers. In spec classes the pan cars are too quick. Or at least that was the case when the rule was written. When TC started we used to race them on foam tyres in Australia, I can't remember if that was the case internationally as well. I'm sure it's still the case for open track layouts that the pan cars will be quicker in spec classes.
