In an earlier post you suggested gearing up 2-3 teeth when going from 6 cells to 5 cells. What's the analogous recommendation when going from 6 cells to a 2S LiPo? I've heard that a 2S LiPo feels more like 7 cells when running a low-wind motor.

Most of the time people retain the same gearing because the voltages are similar between a standard 6 cell NiMH pack and a 2S LiPo pack.

Hi Steve I have a question for you. During last night's racing I had the center wire to the motor come lose during the main. I saw a few puffs of smoke and then the car went dead. By dead I still had stearing but no go with the wire off. I'm sure the esc burned a fet or two from the smell but will something like that damage the motor also?

Thanks
Chris

I would say start out around 4.2-4.5 with the 13.5

For the 17.5 I'd say start around 3.5-3.8 and go from there.

Chris,

I'd say that there's a possiblity you did some damage to your motor... best thing to do is take the front end bell off and check the windings... if they have been damaged you'll see the insulation melted or something.

We have been all around on the gearing with the 17.5 and keep striking out. We started out with 4.0 and the temps seemed fine. Went to 3.9 and it didn't make 5 minutes. It seems that the motor got to 160 degrees and just quit. The temps on the GTB were running cooler than the motor. We never had any issues with the 13.5.

Last week we were geared anywhere from 3.5 to 3.8 and couldn't make 5 minutes.

This is in touring car with rubber tires.

Suggestions?

well I have been running 4.8ish and it seems okay. Not the fastest on the track. Temps on the motor are pretty high though, 170 range. Doesnt cut off though. If I go lower wont the motor get even hotter??
