Default 6900kv gearing....esc hot! help please

currently am running a hpi sprint 2 flux, motor swapped to a castle creations 6900kv with a 2s lipo. Running the Sidewinder Sv2 ESC

gearing is 23p /87 spur and temps are as follows:

lipo battery: 104*F
cc motor: 140*F
ESC: 170*F

so I'm wondering, how do I get the esc temps lower? gear down on the pinion? and to what size should I change it to? I still want good top speed, but I want to be able to do donuts/drifting, etc without the motor overheating, or the esc.

I blew a tire off on my first run too, lol....this thing is retarded fast on top end.

ok, switched to a RRP 18 pinion....top speed lets say...suffered a lot, grrr...I was enjoying the insanity for a little bit, lol.

Temps:
lipo battery: 95*F
cc motor: 155*F
esc: 140*F

also, I was mistaken on the stock gearing, it was a 90spur / 23 pinion up top (first post)

this was run on 18/90 with the temps in this post....I have a 87spur though, and I know -3 on spur = +1 on pinion right? to get some of my top speed back, and i'll closely monitor the temps, but I think that will be the ideal setup.

Then when I get some drift tires, I can switch between 18/90spur for drifting (more torque), to 18/87 for speed runs....

Can that ESC even handle the 6900kv motor?

This ESC CAN't handle that motor. That's why it's getting hot. I know this is an old thread, but I have been reading and seen this multiple times.

Check Castle Creation gearing chart. 6900kv it could take 12 or less toothed pinions.
