I recently purchased a HB Cyclone TC. Picked up some spare parts for it, including 3Racing aluminum rear diff 1 piece outdrives. I had a spare diff (balls, bearings, etc...) so thought I'd put the rear diff together. And here's the problem... The 3Racing Aluminum outdrive isn't made to the same specs as the HB plastic outdrives are.

See the pics below. The 3Racing outdrives do not mesh up with the D-shaped steel diff ring. It's too small. I do have a spare original plastic outdrive, and it fits perfectly.

So, my question is, do I avoid purchases from 3Racing? is their stuff garbage? Or did I just come across an abnormality...

Wow that's quite a bit of grease for a diff. For the most part 3Racing makes some really good stuff...but once in awhile you will run across something that isn't up to par.

i think you might notice that that is made for a diff car if you look?
i know the new and old ones are different in size!

The 3 Racing is made for the original Cyclone diff
The latest Cyclone pro spec diff utilises larger diff rings.
Same thing that changed with Tamiya with the move from 415 to 416.

Ah, alright. I thought I had made sure it was for the right model, but I guess I made a mistake. My bad...

I guess the original cyclone diff won't work in my TC? Or maybe the original diff-rings in my pro-spec diff?

The original diff will work on your TC but you need all the right parts and to be honest it not worth doing as the TC diff is allot better diff. Either stick with the TC pro spec diff u have that came with the tc or if its broke.. get the original POM out drives or if u run mod get the upgraded Aluminium HB Outdrives for the TC Part No.. #67724 CUP JOINT (Aluminium/Pro Spec Ball Diff).

I have run the 3 racing diff in my old cyclone and it does tend to bend even if u are running 17.5 and lower classes.. its cheap though. Also I hate loosing those blue blades.. they come out so easy..

i agree. sometimes you have to look at the "fine print" on these things if they will fit your particular car (or version of your car) or not...

i got a set of 3Racing alloy dampers and was forced to replace the original o-rings and rubber bladder for Tamiya units as they were leaking oil after just 1 run...

but overall, they do make some great alloy and graphite stuff...

i think the original cyclone ball diff is just as good as the new "TC" version.
But yeah everyone is right, the 3racing parts are designed for the older
cyclone diff.

Yes 3racing makes good stuff, i swear by their products and have been
using them for years now.

Does anyone know if these CVD's fit the cyclone TC? Any feedback on these?

No worries. We've all done it at some point in time. But to answer your original question, 3R makes some pretty good parts. I buy from them when I can't the part I need from the company, like Tamiya. And they make parts for a lot of different cars too.

Even big brands like Tamiya can make some crap,
eg TB03 diff outdrives that are far to soft(alu) or far too brittle (plastic)
