I was about to rebuild my diffs today, and I realized that I don't have the snap ring pliers. Do you guys know of a way to do take them out without the pliers besides using lexan scissors?

That was the (okay, we'll call it technique) I used before the snap ring pliers. After a few Ali/Fraser battles with my diff. I broke down and bought the snap ring pliers. Only takes me five seconds now.

I can't believe you guys buy $450 cars, $1000 of electronics and everything else, and are too cheap to buy a real set of $7 snap ring pliers. The set I bought from Sears (Craftsman, black pliers with red handles), included about a half-dozen different tips. I spent 30 seconds with a bench grinder lightly tapering the tips of the smallest inserts, and they work perfectly, without damaging the diff half or the snap ring.
My grandfather told me a long time ago, "no matter what you do, don't ever skimp on your tools."
Good advice.
