Would 10.5 "no esc timing" be faster or slower than a 13.5 open speedo class for 4wd touring? This would be on a relativley large outdoor asphault track. My club MIGHT IN THE FUTURE be looking to find an "inbetween class" between 17.5 no timing, and open mod, and which ever of these two is slower, I think would be a better "in between". Thoughts?

Just run mod with whatever the fastest motor you can handle.

I'm not looking for recommendations on what class I should run... im looking for recommendations in figuring out what class would be best to add to our program's line up, betweeen "17.5 no timing", and mod. (IF THE PROGRAM DECIDES TO DO SO)

I was thinking "10.5 no timing" would be dead smack in the middle of the two. Fast enough so that it isn't too close to 17.5, but not so fast that it would pull numbers from the mod class. Agree? disagree? Is there something better?

no.. im just looking for opinions other than your own, considering out of all our responses, we got a grand total of 2 suggestions on an intermdiate class between 17.5 stock and mod. One (yourself) suggested 13.5 with timing, and another suggested 10.5 no timing.

Is there something wrong with me asking for imput from other racers?

I'd go 17.5 with timing. Reason being is that to step up from 17.5 stock (timing off and motor at factory settings) is to learn to tune your existing speedo and motor. That way you don't exclude the crowd with the Tekins and such and they have a place to progress too when they can handle more speed. 17.5 timed out is seriously fast and I'm guessing a whole lot closer to 10.5 untimed. The upside is no additional equipment purchase to go up or down a class. Downside... can't really see one.

I would suggest 17.5 boosted and mod. 13.5 is so close to both that it seems pointless. 10.5 is already pretty fast with boost and definitely qualifies as mod. We ran both this weekend and they were within a couple of tenths by lap and within 1 lap after 6 minutes.

I like the question out there beyond 'our PNW scope'. (But maybe...just maybe, we need to watch the usual PNW 'ish before the rest of RCTech sees how much we don't appreciate one another....sad, but true.)

Me...myself...I'm on the fence. With either one speed is there. Top end will change a bit between the two but NEITHER one will have the huge 'snap' of a lower turn MOD. And that's the biggest difference I see in distinguishing the (for the lack of a better cliche) men from the boys

Plus two! Open mod allows you to run whatever you can control and if there are enough participating you will find someone at your current skill level to race. Stock is for the beginner and the experienced racer that finds the slower speed their comfort zone.

Mod is WAY above my driver skill level while 13.5 with timing and boost is only a little above my driver skill level. I would eventually like to move up a class from 17.5 sportsman. I am taking a particular intrest in this issue as it will likely be a class I race next year. Whatever the class is I would like to have timing and boost available.
