I tried a non-Elfite lipo in mine and got burned - the connector pulled off in spite of my carefully trying to get it connected to the charger - waste of money. I've had good results from the Hyperion lipos and they are all I'll use.

These have been tested on RC Groups and they perform as rated. They are 5C charge capable. Be careful with the biggers ones - even the slightest bit more weight and it'll unbalance the heli. Try a quality 120mah - theres a big diff in flight time and performance vs the elite batts.

The TP should be good as well.

Yeah the e-flight batts commonly drop off pretty quickly.

The common sense batts work OK.
I've used a few Desire Power lipos in various configurations/capacities and they have worked very well for me so far.

i did order 2 of the thunder power 160's
i hope that despite the weight increase, my flight time will be increased.

i really enjoy the challenge of flying.
looking forward to mastering it and moving up to a larger heli

I really like the Hyperion 160's they make my MSR's nose heavy, but I just trim it out and enjoy 1-1.5 minutes more fly time compared to the stock E-flight batteries.

I have found that the Tenergy batteries really SUCK... I will stick with Hyperion for sure, I also use the 3s Hyperion's in my SR

I'm almost there - I'v worn out 2 MCXs and have replaced the motors in my CX-2 for the 2nd time. I've got a TR 450 clone in the late stages of building, waiting on my new radio, Futaba 7C and we'll see what this one can do...

Hyperion 3S 2200 lipos for the HK450 clone.



I learned (the hard way) anything with the tenergy name on it prob is a waste of money....

duster what did you fly in between the mini's and the 450?
is a 250 a good in between point?
or something else?
i can easily seeing myself wanting something larger that can fly outside.

the thought of building a heli seems kind of daunting to me. is it tough?
looks more challenging then a offroad buggy

A highly modded CX-2.....mind you I haven't flown the 450 yet, its still a work in progress. I decided to make the jump to a 450 since its supposed to be more stable than something smaller like a 250. I know others who've gone this route and they're doing well with their 450s.

Building the basic airframe isn't a big deal, but getting the servos installed and setup and getting the radio setup - much more complicated than anything I've had to do with a surface rc. Getting all the servos and radio working together so the swash is setup right has been the hardest thing. I'm still messing with this stage, its critical so it simply has to be right, close won't do!

I thought I'd be OK since I had the manual, but soon found out the manual assumes you know what you're doing. Thats where the vids on helifreak have been really helpful. There is a ton of high quality help out there, the vids on each phase of building a Trex 450 have been a huge help, more so than the manual. I could have saved some time and effort if I had started with the vids.

Its not that hard if you know what you're doing - and thats the hard part, finding enough info to learn what the manual really means.

Amen to that. Proper setup means the difference between success and frustration. There is a ton of information out there, good and bad and god bless finless and helifreak.com, but back when I had to figure it all out, I found there are a whole lot of unnecessary steps that people include in their how-tos, and there are bits of information that either;

A:no one really knows and some people have somehow just stumbled onto,
or
B:they're trying to keep secret. Maybe it's a right of passage thing.

Either way, there were some things that just didn't seem to be available on the internet. And yeah, most manuals are just very rough, general guides at best.
Heli setup is indeed a mystery wrapped in a riddle inside an enigma. But once you get it figured out, it's all really very straightforward and logical, and all the bubble levels and stuff that people will tell you to use are just nonsense and a time wasting distraction. Maybe (hopefully) things have changed, but that's how it was a while back. It got to the point that I just had to sit back and forget most of the stuff I read/saw and just look at it for what it is.

I bought 20 Turnigy, 160mAh, 30c from...you know where.

After a handfull of flights on all batteries in the mCX2, MSR and my new Champ (plane) absolutely no issues at all. And for $1.69 each you just can't try it.

None at all.
They are the same size as the E-Flite that come with it.
