Ok so I've narrowed it down to 4 cars. . . .

They are still kinda lame. The tires are of a decent compound I think, but they dotn have renforcement belts (very very bad lol). The inserts are molded/shaped strip inserts that you glue the ends together with contact cement. So not the greatest stuff int he world.

The nearest dealer I could find doesn't even know if the Losi can run a 30t pinion to a 86 spur (one end of the ratio range I'd probably need with a stock 540).Well I guess that narrows it down to three. lol

The MI2 comes with rims but no tires... but I run one and love it. I recomend a bigger bumper for any car
I ran one one my TC3, my Losi and now my MI2.... any car will break if you hit something the right way so I like all the insurance I can get
And the book says you can gear to a 4.67 final

Ok it's now down to @ cars the Losi or the Schumacher. . . .

Oh and if you know of a review of the MI2 S1 online it would be appreciated as I can only find one of the graphite version.

i know you have set 4 cars, but i think your mad not including shaft drive cars for 540... all to the top line shaft drive cars make awesome 540 cars.
tc3, yok sd, hpi pro4, evo (series) can all be made to run super free and the last thing you want is drag in 540
that said the corally in single belt setup is free, and are a contender despite a poor start in life

i think you should get the one that has the best parts support in your area .for personnal opinion the trf /tb cars are awesome to good in my opinon .

There is no local RC supplier so what ever car it comes down too I'll be getting two of them anyway, one for spares!

Where in New Zealand do you live? You need to go along to have a look at a race meeting and see what everyone else is running.. I am in Auckland and there is plenty of parts support for Tamiya, Losi, Associated and HPI. Have you looked at the HPI Pro 4?

1. The X-Ray is probably the best choice due to being very robust. probably a good thing til you get up to speed on how to drive a touring car.
2. The Losi wasn't too bad as far as breaking bits went. I think I only tore a few things off my G+ after quite major crashes racing modified, nothing just "broke" on it's own. The front bumper was quite adequate at protecting the car. The new owner of my old car uses a "Matt Francis" gear adapter to allow him to run spur gears small enough to compete in 540 stock. I'll be able to see how my new car compares to my old one soon hopefully(If I can get off my arse and fit my radio gear to it)
The kit tyres for the G+ are a "Pink dot" slick and are still sitting on my bench unused, along with the kit inserts they came with.
I only used the kit wheels to mount some Yokomo 138's/inserts on.
Depending on where you plan to use the car, the kit tyres(whichever car you choose)may or may not be suitable so you'll quite likely end up having to buy some.
