a simple question, how do you guys store your rubber tires? i've heard of some racers applying traction compound before they store their tires to keep them fresh and prevent cracking. any secrets?

Yup and I use Integy tire tubes. They seem to trap the moisture in and keep the tires from drying out.

Yeap I've heard of that too....I've seen some guys would wet the newspaper with traction compound to wrap the tires and keep them in a ziplock bags until the next rubber burnin' time

after i'm done with my runs, i just clean the tires with WD40 and store it with a Zip Lock sandwich bags.. works for me!

wow thats great, keep it comming guys, by the way, we run sorex 40s here, track temp ranges from 50 to 70 C.

oh, another question, wont my tires overheat if i apply traction compound when i use them after storage? or does the traction compound take effect a few mins after u apply them?

Traction compound softens the rubber. If you leave it on too long, the rubber gets extremely soft. Great for cool or cold days with low bite, not so great for warmer or hot days. I store my tires in zip lock bags with a shot of motor spray before sealing them.

ok, so the traction compound will soften the tires when i store them, but i might have problems when i use them again especially in the hot weather, am i correct?

so is it a consensus that storing them after applying traction compound is not good (in hot weather)?

i clean them after the race, red dot them and place them in a sealed glad wrap bag.

I clean 'em....sauce 'em and slap them in a sandwich bag as well.

And what do you guys do, if you're not allowed to use traction sauce? Just put them in an air tight bag?

do you really need the air tight sandwhich wrapper? i use the hpi tire bag, it fits 4 tires and seals them using velcro, but im sure its not air tight, will that matter?

Wow .....it gets to soft eh..... keep that in mind. 'cos some of these drivers just tell you what they do but no further explanation why they do it.

I thought you guys didn't stop driving until the tires were worn out.

Oh..now I understand...... those guys who have worn out their tires would wrap them in newspaper soaked with tire sauce so that they have grip in the next run.....
