I think the stick figure family would be even better.

I am trying to find the body of choice to run in USGT. From what I've heard I need to get the new spec tire soft in order to have grip. If this is so then what do I need to do to get them soft. I know the new spec tire is killing the GT class at my home track, so any info that I can use and pass on would be greatly appreciated.

The spec tire actually help the class at my track. People were having troubke with the old x patterns. Now the usgt class is only about a second behind 17.5 for lap times.

As for softening them up. The local guys have just been ueing SXT 3.0 like always. It just takes a few runs to break them in. It also helps that at the end of the race day, you clean your tires then coat them in traction compund and put them in a ziplock bag so they dont dry out. I am sure there are lots of other ways, but thats what I do.

our local track combines usvta and usgt into one class as scale spec. i kind wish they would separate the two classes so we could use the usgt ride tires. for now we are limited to just hpi d compound tires. ive tried the xpatterns ans find them fast but twitchy and makes the car harder to drive. the vta tires are much smoother to drive but a little slower. i prefer the usgt class but there are no plans to separate the classes out, even during the summer racing season. its a bummer as ide like to use the usgt spec tire.

I hate to see a class struggle at any track for any reason. But I find it hard to believe that the tire rule is enough to sink it. Enthusiasm ebbs and flows at the best tracks with great promoters. If the tires really are killing the class then I think I would stick with the older rules for the local racing. Everyone knows that at big events they are going to need the Ride tires. My first set is glued onto 26mm rims and I would like to feel the difference between them and a set on 24mm rims. But for my first set, I had to have them on nice rims.

@Snoopy,
I'll be interested to hear how they do on the 26mm wheels. I have heard reports of the Ride tires becoming "less flat" on the surface, in that they look more like motorcycle tires with a convex tread. This, as far as I know, has been on 24mm wheels. Please update as you use yours. I don't know if the SXT 3.0 or Simple Green regimen might be doing it to that particular compound or not.

We have been putting them on the tire truer to spin them up and take a file to the middle groove. They do take some time to wear that groove off so if you can help that process out on the bench it makes the tires much more consistent and faster up front. Just be careful not to press to hard as you could put the file right through the rubber.

Interesting, I would be curious as to why a spec tire for USGT would kill it locally for your track. A $26 set of tires vs. a potentially $40 set and everyone knows what everyone is running.

Are folks having issues with handling, tire wear, slower lap times, or all of the above so to speak? Could it be that the track is an "open odorless compound" track and the resulting "chemical soup" is playing a role?

As far as softening the tire, LG1, SXT Tire Cleaner or Buggy Grip 2, have been the favorite to use here locally. Be mindful however, to soft of a tire will lead to extremely fast tire wear.

Once 99% of drivers at my local track went to using the same copmound, traction stsrted to come up pretty quick. The first few weeks when everone was using different copmounds it was a crapshoot on traction. From traction rolling the first couple laps, to ice skating 5 laps later. I think every indoor track should have a 1 compound rule. It really helps with consistancy.
