hi guys just letting you know that is fairly easy to fit the photon gear diff into the tamiya 416 and the xray t3 without mass mods.for the 416 you need the photon swing shaft protectors and you need to mod the ball diff pullly aswell and for the t3 its a pully mod and then it fits fine.....

Yes I agree but ever 1 is finding it hard to find a spec r diff so it's a other option.The photon diff was 10g lighter then a ball diff and about 20g lighter then a spec r

The Spec-R diffs are nice but I've got two and they both leak. I've read that there is a new o ring. Does anybody know anything about that ?

Gear diffs are prone to weeping a little but the following will help...

1. Use something like AE green slime (as used on shock shafts) on the outdrive o rings.
2. Do not overfill (up to the top of the spider is about right)
3. Lightly coat the gasket with (Silicone) oil before installation.
4. Gently tighten screws in a diagonal pattern until snug. (This prevents deformation of the housing)

I built mine around a month ago and not lost a drop.

Hi Sai - thanks for checking in on the thread. I think the Spec-R diff was starting to get popular -- and then it was in Marc's car at The Worlds and everything just blew up.

In additional to reaching out to Sai, you can also reach out to me. I'm one of a handful of Atomic RC sponsored drivers focused on larger scales (instead of mini-z). I've been running the diff very successfully using the kit instructions. I've tried some alternate ways of building the diff because the brand new diff feels tight, like using two gaskets, but none of them has been as reliable as the kit configuration -- especially when running real modified motors (5.5T).

Mike, do you have any advice aside from what's already been mentioned to keep the diff from leaking around the outdrives? It seals perfectly around the pulley, but leaks after a run or two from the outdrives ... I've built it by the instruction sheet and I know its not over filled.

Is there any plans for a gear diff for the TC5?, or does anyone know of a diff that fits the TC5?.. I am able to change the pulley orientation on the layshaft to match other cars, but i am needing to find a diff that fits the back..

hi andrew - green slim works pretty good. i haven't noticed a ton of oil leaking out of my diffs. i think people are just over filling them. what i have noticed was a trace of oil on the center of my body being caused by oil being spun out of the diff initially. this goes down over time, and if you clean your body you'll see that by the second run it doesn't leak in the any anymore.

I personally don't know. I think the best bet is for others to post up that they would want a gear diff for the TC5 too. I don't own a TC5 anymore.. but next time I see someone with one I'll take a look at their diff again. I think the reality of a TC5 diff happening would be greater if the TC6 uses the same sized diff too (I don't know if it does or doesn't).

What about for the Cyclone? Has anyone managed to wedge one in withough changing the entire drivetrain?
