I'm taking the day off, I got 2 XXXS's that are completely torn down, just took everything off the chassis I've been running to throw a new chassis on the car, just waiting on my order from Acer to come in so I can get em built. I dont think I'll be racing before Reedy.

Im going to be getting a new chasis this week too.

what do i use to tap the holes?

and for different size holes do i use different size screws?

I heard someone use dishsoap, dipping screw in that before screwing it in.

I just use a steel screw to tap the holes personally, once I get them in as deep as I'd like, just turn it back and forth until it frees up a hair then back it out.

awsome, and for each size of screw you have a steel one for the tap?

not one screw for all the holes, right?

You can do the whole chassis with 3 1/2 x 4-40 cap head screws. Use them to tap 1 hole each in 1-2-3 order so they have time to cool down between holes. I just finished tapping a chassis a couple mins ago and it worked fine.

I just use a 4-40 tap and tap it about 3/4 of the length. Then when putting your screw in put some white losi grease on it and thread it in.

I do almost the same as James. Tap the 4-40 size holes about 2/3 to 3/4 through the hole (depending on its depth); but, scrape threads of screw over stick of soap or ski wax.

Randy apparently uses a cap head screw while James and I use a tap (tool) which fits into a handle for ease of use.

When I used a screw (no pun) to cut threads, I would screw it part way in and then back it out 2-3 times to clear the graphite debris from the hole while cutting the threads.

Randy's method of using three different screws (to allow for cooling) is his typical genius showing through.

Oh....This may count for something.

Just remembered that Randy uses aluminum screws. Not sure about James. I use titanium or stainless which seem to vary in their snugness within the same 4-40 tapped hole.

I use all of the stock steel screws. The only parts that have been replaced by Lunsford Ti are the 8 shock tower ones, the 4 servo mount ones, 4 shock mounts in favor of Lunsford quicktune, and 12 losi Ti ballstuds. Even with all of my MF aluminum parts on the car it is WAY under weight.

The fastener express screws seem to be a hair undersized, so I think a tap might be a little overkill for them, that's why I have stuck to the cap head screws...
