What are some options, perhaps from other buggies, for big bore threaded shock upgrades for the Mugen? I checked my 8ight and D8 and the fronts will work but the rears on the Mugen are very long. It looks like some Ofna shocks might work since they are similar in length for the rears and I checked eBay and there is a pair for $65 that are purple but they look pretty generic.

So, what are you guys running for shock upgrades on your MBX5R's?

hi the shocks from the mbx6 are the same length. they even use the same seal kit and shaft's

I use Jammin 16mm big bores. They are sweet! You have to use the jammin mounts too.

MBX5r's run best with the stock shocks. Changing to big bores is a sure-fire way to get lost in setup land. I have never driven a more stable buggy than a 5r (including my MBX6).

I've heard that the stock setup is best. I guess I'll just play with the shock oils and maybe rebuild the inners, if possible and see how it goes.

Start with 27.5 Rear/32.5 front oil and the gray springs. Mount shocks in the middle on the tower, outside on the arms. That was the most common combination for the 5R and works everywhere.

Last season I tried mbx6 shocks on my mbx5r. Worst thing I ever did to that car EVER. Like stated above, I was caught very lost in setup land. The stockers are nice and smooth, and the spacers are nice because they are consistent.
