I have now tried the BD using a Thunder Power 13.5 at Aldershot in the UK, this track;
Video dates back to the 27t brushed days so it is now a lot faster. but you can see the layout, the straight is around 50m long leading into a banked sweeper so top speed is necessary.
Just piling on top timing doesn't seem to cut it with most motors so I have been testing using 40-45 and 45-50 mid a top timing etc. which seems to go quite well.
The TP motor seemed to go better when turned up to around 25deg on it's timing.

At Newbury last night tried gearing from, 7.60 to 7.98 tonight with a Thunder Power 13.5 with motor timing at 30deg.
The ESC was set at Profile 4, mid timing 3000rpm 42deg, high timing 10000rpm 48deg, 200delay and motor set to 30deg timing.
It was coming off around 61degC with only a small passive heatsink, no fan.
The following is my final (I was car 2, dark blue with pink looking front end geared at 7.98)
It's virtually silent down the straight.
For once I was as quick as the turbo esc cars down the straight. But my drivng wasn't good enough for the A Final (Newbury only run 8 car finals)

More testing today at Rug Racers in the UK.
Ended up with the following using a Thunder Power 13.5;
3000rpm, 42mid, 10000, 48top, 200 delay
FDR 7.98 Motor timing 27deg, felt good, temps 50degC
FDR 7.98 Motor timing 30deg, felt good, temps 61degC
FDR 7.98 Motor timing 32deg, felt good, temps 71degC
The more timing, the faster the car felt down the straight but brakes became a bit weaker at high speed. Car felt fast out of corners.
Car was very quick on the straights

Black Diamond speed controls were an interesting experiment. Was frustrating to passed on the straightway by cheaper speed controls. It was probable my fault. Would have been easier to live if I hadn't spent $300 on the 5 that I had purchased. Live and learn.

I have had a black diamond for a couple of years. I love my's all three of them they have been updated to the lates software. They are very smooth and easy to tune.

Just because you don't know how to get the best out of it, doesn't make it junk.
If they always blew up on everyone, then they would be junk.
I have 4 of them which admittedly is not the best use of my money compared with the current ESC's. But I can make it go very fast and smooth

Here was I thinking this thread had gone quiet and we'd all moved on to other brands until some clever chap decides to pipe up and share with us wise thoughts about the product quality of the BD...by comparing it to the LRP... This is just beyond funny.
Hello my friends, nice to know you're all still alive, and your Black Diamonds are also still alive. And our colleagues have been through $$$$(££££?) worth of SXX Stock specs since we bought our BD's.
Perhaps the reason its so quiet here is because the BD works well, relatively easy to tune, no drama, no funny business...well, there's not really much to talk about!
