Good info. Will try the Durango one. Thanks so much!!

I'll be running at Tacoma RC Raceway this weekend, very high grip clay. Thank you for the compliment on the wiring - lots of practice makes for decent results! The extra wires go to a capacitor bank for the ESC.

I've been running this motor for several months now and really like it. It is the best 17.5 motor I've experienced. If you have access to a motor analyzer, 5.5-5.8A seems to be the sweet spot for buggy, with a FDR between 5.6 and 6.0.

So if I go up in turn it will provide more torque if I am understanding motors correctly right?

I rather want torque than super speeds. So going up to a 10.5T like Cain suggests would give more torque and I can keep the 31T pinion with the 87T spur?

Yes I ask alot but I just want something that can be run for a good period of time without the risk of overheating of the ESC.

I haven't fully got my head around brushless motors - I understand that compared with brushed motors when you gear them up they tend not to loose acceleration - just gain top speed.

I believe the lower the turn number the more grunt or torque the motor will have. By going to a 10.5t from a 6.5t you will have less torque but by gearing up (to 31T pinion which is very high) will keep the top speed.

Bear in mind that pinions are very cheap compared with motors and I have been told at my local club and also read lots on here that 7.5t is considered to be the best motor for 2wd off road buggies. I am running a 9.5t as in my previous run in the sport (17 years ago) I always went faster (less crashes) with a slightly less poerful motor 18t Brushed - although my recent experience of the modern brushless ESC feels like you have amazing control compared with what I was using.

I just switched over to a transverse battery with my mid motor set up for a med bite dirt track on my v2. First impressions are great! I was able to gain the extra lap for our weekly races.

Since you only have the 87 spur.. Stick with the motor you have, 6.5t, throw a 22 or 23 tooth pinion in there and see how it runs. If you are not happy with that. Then go with a 10.5 and get a smaller spur.. Like an 81 as suggested. Modified motors draw a little less amps and you won't need as stellar as a battery as you would with a higher turn motor. Just my 2 cents. Good luck. Ask as many questions as you need.. We are here to help!!

Default VRP PISTONS

This is a question to all of you, I am thinking of trying the VRP pistons. They sound like they would help. For Durango they only offer 2x1.6 or 3x1.4. I use front 2x1.5/ rear 2x1.7 in my buggy now. Use front 2x1.6/ rear 3x1.6 in my ST. Have any of you tried these Pistons, and what combination are you guys using. I prescribe to Fred's balance method. I was thinking of going front 2x1.6 and try the 3x1.4 in the rear. Maybe drill them to 3x1.5. Maybe drill one to 2x1.7 for rear. I know JP runs front 3x1.4 front and 2x1.6 rear. Would love to hear your opinions!!
Guess I should add: indoor dirt clay, Medium to high grip, med to large jumps. Little bumpy, can be smooth. NorCal Hobbies.
Good tires are slicks with proper watering. Electrons better in practice day with less track maintenance. Thanks

For 17.5? I've had the best performance at 31/72 (6.039) with a Maclan MRR 17.5 and a gear diff running 7k oil. Your mileage may vary depending on motor, though.

I'm running a trinity 17.5 in my 210f. I've tried posting in the 210f specific forum but no one ever posts there and when they do I never get any response.

I am running the stock 87 and threw a 29 in (7.96 FDR) . Just wanted to see what FDR everyone here was running in their 210s.

Thanks in advance.

Typically with 17.5 you use 72/69/66 sized spurs and pinions anywhere from 30 to 36. Variables that will affect which gearing are many such as, ambient temp, vehicle weight, type of motor, traction, run times etc.

For me when I ran 17.5 I went between 32,33,34 pinion with a 69 Spur

Just a pick a gearing to start with and keep a temp gun handy 80deg or lower is best some say even lower.

Also with the 210F you may be limited in how close you can adjust the motor to the spur which can limit your options

Many good points, thank you. Yea I noticed it may be limited due to the adjustment point they built in but I can shave it down and such if needed to grab a couple of more teeth. I threw my Trinity D4 17.5 in it for now but I think I might make it into a mod car, my track runs carpet year round. Still not sure yet, my fiancé got it for me for my bday.

No one really posts over in the 210f section, are they just posting here instead?

No, I post over there and others. You may want to get a bit more specific with your question like you did here (exact motor, etc) as well as it may be that no one is doing what you did or, those who would know have the dex210F, post there.

As for adjustment points, I say go with a smaller spur. You will have a much better range for the pinion setup on a 17.5. I use a 75T spur right now. With the way the maclan is,I am trying the higher timing setup and I am seeing that I want smaller pinions relative to the track I ran on. So it works well. May even go with a slightly bigger spur. Trinitys I have heard may be more RPMish than the Maclans.

Pretty nice looking DEX210V3 up on ebay right now for $199 OBO with spares.

I have a lot I need to post in the 210F section. Its just been a little slow going since I was running dirt and focusing on my V3 for this last big race we had. But its time to get back to some rug racing so I'll get some updates in the F section soon.

I was just trying to see what cst everyone was using and if they went with the recommended 7000.

Cain, what pinion are you using with the 75t and how big of a track? I just threw the spur in that came with it but I have a bunch others from messing with my B5M. How do you like the Maclan?

I enjoyed the build and can't wait to get to the track with it.
