I don't think you're wrong, but it seems wherever you gain in one area you often lose somewhere else.

The narrower rear diff reduces transmission rotating mass, but on the other hand running the belt over a larger diameter pulley (standard set-up) is more efficient than a smaller (layshaft) pulley - so the question is which combination works out better?

I agree that there may be a small amount of "lag" with front diff spool-up time, but, it's the rear that does most of the acceleration under power and the drive to the rear diff is the same as other belt drives.

By running this more conventional layout we might find that the car has a little more rip out of corners, but this may be at the expense of slightly less overall efficiency than the current set-up.

A one-way and some steel front driveshafts. A gear adapter if you want to go to 64p. Gearchart.com has Mo and STLNLST carpet setups for rubber tire. If Norcal ends up switching to foams for all classes, scrub the one-way and order some BMI shock towers.

The carpet track i race at I own..so rubber tires for stock it is.. (jk)I'm with Ruben on "it's what the racers want".I have the Teemu chassis and the carpet towers and the steel cvd's and the tamiya shocks,I guess i should get the one way.On the belt system I still think the stock system works great,I have way more "rip" corner to corner with my Mi2 than with my Tech or 415 and both the tech and 415 use the "short" belt.I guess if you think the belt system for the Mi2 is "slow" get another car..

Yep, I broke about six of them in a three week span on carpet with foams. Then out of desperation at the track (due to lack of replacement parts) I found something that worked and am running it ever since.

That would be a TC3 steering rack?? How did you mount your servo,I'm using the Teemu chassis and I'm not sure if i have enough room to mount the servo.

(How much) Will the grip level reduce if I change from standard wishbones to c/f wishbones?

Doubt you'll really notice it, I gained a little consistency in the car after the switch...and that's probably the way to go.

Nice to see another Swede in the forum by the way ;-)

Hey Paul, what should we do for gearing on this?

I saw Jim break most of those arms with my own eyes... it was the weirdest thing.... almost funny ... just the slightest brush on a wall or another car would snap the steering arm... while we could hit all kinds of things with our MI2 and not break. Never did figure out why his car broke all those arms but Jim did a great job changing over to a TC3 rack at the track and only missed one qualifier

Mo and I each broke one during the Speedworld Cup. We were both on the stand during practice, I tapped a board, *snap*, a lap or two later and he tapped a board, *snap*.

Those were both over a year old parts though. Generally if you are breaking a lot of those arms or bellcranks, you may have the servo saver set a little too tight. Back off the spring tension a little and it should be ok.

I think I remember you calling in about this. You had us really stumped as no one else is really breaking those. We ran a report that showed US usage of those part and it was really low.
