Ok, went to change my shock fluid after a track day, and noticed that it was black! Is this normal? How often should one change their shock fluid?

I change mine every 5-6 race days. But I know the pros change theirs after every race

you got holes in your shock dust boots. replace them. oil should stay clean

it'll get dirty but i normally change mine after 2 race weekend or so

Your shock oil will get dirty normally. If you have holes in you dust boots, they will get dirty sooner. As they get dirty, it changes the characteristics of the oil. I change mine quit often. I move around from track to track, so adjusting for track conditions, I can find myself changing the oils weekly.

Depending on how often you run your car, and the condition of your shock boots and o-rings, I would say change them every few track days if you want them to feel consistent.

Fresh boots and o-rings can keep your oils fresh longer, and they always feel smooth as butter after fresh parts, and oil.

No no, they are brand new shock boots, and i use outwears shockwears. I just replaced the o-rings all the way around and put fresh fluid in a week ago. So a few practice days and one track day and black she is!

I go about a gallon, but the rear shock behind the pipe always gets dirty faster.

from my experence it is what brand of car u have ... for instance an associated shocks gets dirty about 35 minutes sooner than a losi and a jammin shock last about 15 minutes longer than a associated but cleen your shocks an replace seals about every gallon and u are good to go


a good way to see how well your shocks are is flip your car over and press down on the wheels to preload the shocks if u feel a delay in the damping u prob have a seal problem or possably a bad bladder if u have oil on top of blader replace that if not replace seals

thats jus a good way to check your shock on race day to see if they need work
