sand blasting, bead blasting or media blasting will leave the surface porous which will enable even more debris to stick to it.

I got tired of trying to keep them polished and used 600 grit or finer imory cloth or a scuff pad like body shop's use to scuff paint to give them a brushed look.

if you really want to clean your pipes, get a deep fryer and some cheap anti-freeze (coolant) 1/4 fill the deep fryer set on a low heat and leave the pipe in there over night. The coolant is an aluminum conditioner and will clean it.
Make sure to do this in a well vented shed or outside as the fumes from the glycol may be dangerous(very dangerous apparently).

Sand blasting will make it easier for gunk to stick & get baked on like mentioned above but, it will also have the effect of increasing surface area by upto 100% & so cooling if a cool pipe is beneficial for you.

Do this with a cheep crock-pot outside on med.-high over nite and they'll look like new every time. Plus gets all the stuff out of the inside. It works.

or I will polish them often on a buffing wheel, works really good and they always look new.

Default Cool.

After the anti freeze dip, I recommend Mothers mag/Alluminium polish, it works great, and prevents things sticking as much. I do it by hand with a soft rag.....
