With foam tires of that size you need to use the stock front shock tower to get the proper ride height. I had the same problem as you are describing.

mike_webb,
Easy fix is to use the TC3 shock coupler. Allows the spring to site lower. Serpent or X-Ray also makes an aluminum set that lower the springs too, but easiest and cheapest is to use the AE spring retainer dealio's........
Hope this helps.

The Shock Tower for Foam Tires is for Pivot Ball. The Stock Shock Tower is for C-Hubs. When it comes to running smaller foam tires that is.
My experience that is.
As for setup it is:
1.77 Pulley Set
Med Front A-Arm
3 Degree Carrier
Xray 30Weight Oil, 2 Holes Open, Dark Blue Springs
#2 Hole on A-Arm and #2 Hole on the Shock Tower
Camber is #1 Hole on Shock Tower and #2 Hole on Hub Carrier
One-Way Diff
-1.5 Degree of Camber
0 Toe-In
2 Droop
Medium Rear A-Arm
Xray 30Weight Oil, 3 Holes Open, Blue Springs
#2 Hole on A-Arm and #7 Hole on the Shock Tower
Camber is #2 Hole on Roll Center Bridge and #2 Hole on Hub Carrier
Diff Tight
-1.5 Degree of Camber
2 Degrees Toe-In
6 Droop
Plaids Front
Purples Rear
Start with tires at 63mm
28/128 Reedy KR 10x2
Hope this helps,

Question for you guys.
I decided to buy alum C-hubs for the front, just the 3º C in alum, not the knuckle (composit is too brittle). Well when I went to put it together with the alum blocks I noticed that the C-hub bushings were a lot bigger than the composits and that the knuckle floated up/down too much. What I came up was putting the composit C-hub bushing (xray 302290) inside the alum c-hub bushing (double bushing!) and than the 3 mm hex screw (M3x12) into the knuckle. This works good, no slop and pivots well. Is this how it's suppost to be done. Is the alum knuckle different specs than the composit? The alum c-hub bushings look like they fit a 4mm screw if you don't use the composit C-hub bushing inside it. Confusing I know...maybe someone else has gone through this as well.

With my motor geared at 28/128 it does get a little warm. But it does not damage the brushes any. I get about 2-3 runs out of it before a rebuild. Our track is a 180x 80 if that helps. Also what brushes are you using? I am using Lightspeed brushes.
The springs should not touch the collars when setting on a stand. There should be a gap between the spring and the collar.

I'll be at the Hobby Vision Show in Las Vegas. I'll take a hard look at the new Xray cars and report my findings. I'll take a pic or two also.
