Default Losi XXX-S and Mamba Max 5700?

Hey guys, I have a Losi XXX-S RTR thats been sitting in my storage for a few years collecting dust. Anyway, I have a Mamba Max 5700 that I was going to throw in my Slash. But the thing gets too hot. So I was thinking maybe the XXX-s could use 5700? Maybe doing a little parking lot basher thing. I plan on using 2S 5000mah lipo's for it. But not sure what gearing would work for it? My knowledge of the xxx-s or electric onroad period is "limited" at best. I need help picking a good gear ratio(spur/pinion) for this thing. Can somebody chime in and give me some ideas? Thanks.

I run a xxx-s for RCGT racing with a 17.5 brushless. On our tight, technical track I've been running 4.8-5.0 for final drive ratio.(thats a 108t 64p spur with a 41t pinion) This weekend I'll be running on a larger track and looking at somewhere around 4.2 gear ratio. In case you don't know how to figure gear ratios...here ya go. Spur tooth number divided by pinion tooth number. The result multiplied by chassis internal gear ratio ( for a xxxs it's 1.83). So for the example i gave you.... 108t/41t=2.63x1.83=4.82 final drive ratio. Hope that helps. The XXX-S is a great car.

Hey Evoracer. Thanks very much for the gear ratio formula. It helps me a lot! I think I might start at 4.59 (108/43)1.83) and work my way higher on the gearing. Not sure what the outcome will be....but sounds like a safe spot. I will have to pickup a few 64p pinions to start and will try to find some hop-ups as well. BTW, any particular place that is good to get hop-ups for the XXX-S? I live in Hawaii, so everything will have to come from online retailers. Thanks again for your help.

Ebay is great for parts. Also check out Losi Parts House at www.losipartshouse.com. Stormer Hobbies and Ultimate Hobbies have always been good also. Always check Ebay first...there are some great dealers like A main Hobbies and Atomic who have treated me very well.

If you need help give me a shout and I'll see what I can do to help. The X is a great car...don't let anybody tell you different.

BTW, 64 pitch is great for racing as you know but you can run 48 pitch also. For bashing, the 48p might be better.
