You can mount these caps on a plain tire or cut V-grooves in the tire before putting the caps on them. That is up to you. They work well on a plain tire, just be sure to use a softer compound as a base for rain tires. Somewhere between a 20 - 25 shore will work fine.
When you deside to make a grooved tire, you could use some rubber O-rings which will be placed over de cap & into the groove OR... Just order a set of KISS rain-tyres. These are complete and ready to run rain tires from Harry Kissinger. He has a full set of rain tires ready to go on white Corally S4 rims. Not cheap but you only use them in a full-wet situation so they will last very, very long!!!

I drove my 235mm car last night for the first time. Car ended up very good after some setup changes but am still having issues putting the power down. Either the diff is slipping or the tyres spinning but the car doesn't make forward progress out of corners like it should. Once it's going things are great but take off isn't happening properly. Any ideas?

you can find some videos from the German 1/10th Pan Car Nationals held last weekend at the Munster 1/8th track.
The videos are showing just the Finals from the 235mm modified class and the video Impressionen Fahrerlager is showing a trip through the pits.
We also had a 200mm class with the Cirtix non boosting ESC and 17.5T motors and a 235mm class with open ESC and 10.5T motors but there are no videos from this classes.
For the A-Mains the first one was wet and extremly slippery, the second A-Main was damp and still very slippery and the last one was dry and near full grip. Actually the videos don´t really show the speed of the cars it´s even faster as it looks like.
As for gear batteries were 2S Lipo as usual here, motors were between 3.5T and 4.5T or 7T Delta wind. As you can see everybody was using highdownforce bodies not looking like usual Pro10 bodies.
Cars were a lot of Speedline and other German cars also 2 highly modified CRC cars and several scratchbuild cars.
If you can find one near kit condition GenX10 in the pitwalk video then it´s my car.

Too bad the race was in the wet. We had the exact same thing happend to our national. There was a lot of interest so we might come over to Germany with a group of dutch drivers for next years race. Seeing that 50+ drivers enlisted this year it would be cool to join that race as well.
well probably you anwserd your own question. Did you check your diff if it wasn't slipping?

I had a few laps with my Xray X10 (235mm wide) and it destroyed my spur, again!
I have been changing spurs all summer, mostly due to a axle becoming loose when the left side hub coming loose on axle giveing a gap so the axle can move from side to side... not good when it comes to the spur gear as the pinion starts to eat into the side of the spur....
however last time I had fixed the left side hub so that it did not come loose, the spur was again destroyed. It is ofcourse possible that the spur was not properly meshed with the pinion... but I feel that I have used too many spurs this summer.
I am running kawada 48pitch spurs.
what brand of 48pitch spurs are the best?
and where can I get them?

We use www.kimbroughracingproducts.com spurs on our 10.5t 2s pancars.
These will hold, unless you pickup a stone or something.
Also leave a bit of side play on the axle, so if the bearings heat up, they have enough room to turn freely.

Is there some movement between the axle and the bearing? Excessive play between the bearings and axle or play in the bearings themselve can be the culprit, specially when you are using extenders. Exchange the 2 bearings that are holding the axle and see if it is better.
Indeed, go with Kimbrough. Last time i checked Racers in Excile had Kimbrough spurs for a nice price. It's in the UK so transport will be fast.

I'll check the bearings..
I have now ordered 2 sets of spurs 87T 48P from 'racers in excile',
and now I find myself wondering what diameter diffballs are needed??
