Are tranny's illegal for 1/8 scale buggies and truggies in RC Pro series and ROAR racing?

I did. This is the section I found for ROAR:

8.10.11.4 Transmission and drive:

 Single speed transmissions only

 4WD

RC Pro series says basically the same thing, though, there electric 1/8 arena truck rules (not electric 1/8 buggy however) say:

Transmission/diff - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - Single speed direct drive (1/8 buggy) style driveline only.

My understanding then would be a as long as its single speed, a tranny could be used?

imo , i would read that to mean no transmissions , per 1/8th scale direct drive style drivetrain . just my opinion

I think they're just trying to prevent people from using multi-speed transmissions like the 1/8th scale on-road cars.

a center diff is not a single speed transmission, its a center diff. Transmissions have some sort of gear reduction, the RC10T and B are a good example of a single speed transmission.

the direct drive part is the killer.to me that says pinion/spur only.

The direct drive part doesn't really make any sense. Direct drive would infer that there is no reduction at all, that the motor is connected directly to the drive axle. The gearing on a 1/8 scale is reduced at the clutch/spur and again at the pinion/ring gears.
