Like the title says I wanna get into racing nitro buggies. A buddy has one and I love driving it. I'm not lookin to break the bank. Maybe 300.00 to get started and see if racin is for me. I know how fast everything adds up. What would be a good starter buggy?

I was lookin on ebay and I dont want one of those 150.00 buggy's. Other than that I have no idea where to start.
Any help would be helpful.

I think the cheapest good buggy is the CEN Matrix

Its a great buggy and its tough. and cheap-er

The cheapest your gonna find one RTR is like 375 maybe.. i bought my CEN matrix on sale at towerhobbies.com for 370

with a $300 budget you will probably be better off trying to buy a good used rtr buggy. That isnt much money when you are talking about 1/8 scale nitro buggy. Look around and see if you can still find a Losi 8ight rtr new in the box. A month or so ago there were some going for $379 new. The ofna tq black is around $300.

There were several on ebay. Either my atomic or hopmeup had them for that for a couple of months. I just googled the 8ight when I was looking to buy one. I went with the 2.0 roller istead.

I'll second the Cen matrix. I have the c-1, the older version, and it might not be the lightest for fastest but it's sure hard to break. I'm learning my way around the track and my skills would hold me back no matter what I drove. Give the Cen a look at cenracing.com. That or Ofnas hyper 7 or picco buggy.

get the cen matrix r2 its much better and lighter and its rtr has better parts on it

go with the ofna tq. ofna gives you the most for the money.if i only had 300 theres no question thats what i would do. all the cen's i have seen are junk and weigh a ton ( sorry cen fans). most people i know of with a matrix spend most of there time at the pit table. also the car kind of looks and runs like crap on the track. ive never driven 1 so maybe I'm wrong , but it does LOOK like crap going around the track lol. looks worse then my buddys 1990 ofna worlds 2 buggy lol

are u talking about the hyper 7 tq that thing is is a tank but that force .26 is a piece of crap and hard to tune and leaks very quickly ,but i do remmond that buggy its cheaper and parts for it are everywhere

ofna ultra LX 1... $300 smackers and its nice buggy to boot... if it were me id buy a used losi 8 buggy....

You could look on ebay for a used Xray 808. Even used its a great race car. Do some research before you buy.

My picks in order:
Xray (used 808)
Losi (Used 2.0)
Mugen (Used MBX 6)
Kyosho (Used MP9)
Hot Bodies D8 (New)


Your starting budget is pretty tight for a race car, I'd say $400 to $500 is more realistic.

If you are on a $300 budget your best bet is...

don't try to race Nitro Buggy.

Get a Slash and have fun until you can save up about $700 or so, then get the Losi 8ight 2.0 RTR.

There isn't another RTR out there that comes close. All the other RTR buggies have sub-standard parts in one area or another- the running joke is "RTR stands for Ready To Replace." The Losi is the exception to that rule. (And I'm not even a Losi fan!)

If you are looking for the cheapest price possible to get started, stick with ebay and the trader forums...

Tower Hobbies is the exact opposite of cheap imo.

I can find anything on that on that website for 15-20% less most other places(if not more than that).

No offense to anyone who does all there shopping there

Getting a used good buggy i think is a better option.

Reasons:

1. Buggy is usually already set up for racing

2. Not loosing as much if you decide not to race

3. You can get a much better buggy!
