Red face Needle settings

Is there a baseline needle setting guideline for the the Novarossi RS12/Top TN12?

I am breaking this baby in this weekend and want to set the three needes accordingly, idle is easy.

Well it is a TN12S1 so I have heard it is an RS12 and/or MR12. It is so unpopular that I couldn't tell you which it is based off of.

I know that it was manufactured December '03, came from Ron Paris, and is a Top. I bought it new, but the booklet/manual did not have a picture, but had every other .12 Nova/Top/Rex photo.

They didnt have base needle settings? From what I heard though most novas base needle settings should be.

Novarossi (General Base Carb Settings)
Low Speed: 3.25 turns out
High Speed: 4.75 turns out
Mid-Range: Flush with the carb body

Hope thats what your looking for. If your having trouble tuning it, pm me. Im having trouble as well and just finally got it to come around some. The RS's I hear are pretty hard to tune.

Yeah I have the same trouble as well. This engine is pretty unknown. I cant find anything on the net on it. No manuals are left , nothing to even download. I have really no pictures to even fully check what mine is. Made in 2002 I believe...

Also another setting you can try is 2.5 turns out on the low-speed and 5+ turns out on the high-speed. Tweak it till it runs cool enough for you and makes good power.

Also most people do not touch the 3rd needle. The mid-range. They all say just dont touch it...unless your really really good with motors and you have it already well tuned and want to tweak it that tiny bit more.

Unfortunately I did touch the mid needle. What I did was as soon as I opened the box I counted each turn in to see what the factory settings were, I lost the numbers.

The mid needle is flush and the other settings are set, if I notice that the engine is too lean or rich as break in I will adjust from there.

The high speed and idle needles are easy to set, but how does the low speed needle need to be set? What do I listen or look for?

If things are running good I would tune the carb on the track for the low-end and go for good response and power.

Another way to test things is to squeeze the fuel line , the motor should rev up slightly and die after 5 seconds.

If it revs up immediatly and dies its too lean. If it takes awhile to rev up, its too rich.

You should do this after running the car some. So the car isnt sitting there loading up on fuel. This will make the car seem rich...when it isnt.

Clear the throttle out some times while doing this with some full throttle blips of the throttle.

Also here is an article to help you.

http://rcnitro.com/rn/articles/ht_tunengine_01.asp

Hope this helps , happy tuning.

The crank pin on my NSRS5 crankshaft is worn. Is this crank still available? Who in the states can I purchase from? What other crankshafts can be substituted?

Thank Roy

Of all the Nova engines, which version would be ideal for a track that has a straight in between 150-170 feet?

The NSR or even better the Mugen X12 w/ a turbo head button if you can still find the motor.

the RR12L3 would be my first choice. It pulls harder out of the bottom end and has a liniar power band.

Default Compatible?

Two questions:

1) Can I use a RB V-12 Rody Turbo Head Button on the Mugen X-12?

2) Can I use Novarossi Turbo Glow Plugs on The Mugen X-12 as well as the RB V-12?

Yes on the RB V12. If the Mugen X12 is a turbo then yes.
