Let me know.
You got the latest version of D3R. Mine looks the same (People thought it was the TOP engine.) I ran the engine around 230-240F. Mine has 2 gallons through and no sign of wear on the rod and crankpin. And the run time is 6+ minutes for each tank (I like to set the bottom end on the rich side, and top end on the lean side). You can check the timings and compare yours to mine. I post my timing on the forum. I feel the new D3R has wider power band and is faster than the original one. It is the one that I'm racing with now and it is a really good engine, the price is so affordable. You just need to check the conrod and crankpin after you finished the break-in. Make sure not much play is between those 2. You will love it.....

Well, i never thought these Dragon D3R's could be so fast compared to IDM's and other Nova/Picco-based engines until i bought one at RCmushroom, with just a little smoothing out and polishing the internals it's just as fast as other high-brand engines, i'm really impressed

In Southern California, I use Novarossi #7 long body plug in all seasons. The head shim is 0.4mm. And I use 30% fuel all the time.

In winter, I sometimes use Novarossi #6 long body plug, or reduce the head shim to 0.3mm, with 30% fuel.

Last time I raced in Las Vegas, I used Novarossi #7 long body plug, 0.5mm head shim, and 30% fuel. The engine had less top end, but the temp was steady (230 - 250F) during the race. I had tried 0.4mm during practice, but the temp was a little bit high (250 - 270F) to keep up with those fast guys.

Yup, the key here is the internal polishing!
