What are the differences between the new line of SP mod motors and the older 2.0 series?

Cheers.

(1) The SP AMTS system provides a dynamic timing advance function. The user can select up to 26 degrees timing advance. I'm not sure how the proprietary algorithms work within the SP ESC firmware itself.

(2) However, a little bit is known about the Tekin ESC functions and you should be able to relate these to the SP. In Tekin speak there are the "Boost" & "Turbo" functions.
(a) The boost algorithm looks at throttle position, motor current draw, and time (not rpm). Now, if throttle is at maximum AND current draw has lowered AND a small time period has elapsed THEN "intellegently" advance the timing up to the user selection (maximum of 30 degrees). When these conditions have not been met, don't advance the timing.
(b) The "turbo" function is applied after the boost function has been in continuous effect for some user defined period (minimum of 0.5 seconds). Turbo adds extra timing on TOP of the boost timing advance (about an additional 20 degrees max). This only works on tracks with a large-ish straight. The turbo function is only officially available to team drivers at present (soon to be released to public).

(3) Most modern speedies will use an equivalent dynamic timing advance function (SPX has profiles 7 & 8, SP has AMTS, Tekin has boost). Turbo might only be a Tekin thingy (at least at present). Hard to say. But if the speedy firmware is upgradeable (SPX is not), it is likely manufacturers will want to remain competitive.

Hope this helps

Although the Turbo function is not in wide spread usage, the SPX seems to apply LOTS of timing advance. It appears to be a very popular speedy at present. At least for onroad 1/10th scale touring cars (& especially on large tracks).

There is no obvious reason why any other upgradeable speedy (eg: SP) could not implement a few new tricks.

The SP (aka HW) PC Software and LCD programming box are truely excellent, especially when compared to another programmable speedy that I own.

Cheers

As far as i am aware a sensoless speedy can run any motor but sensored speedies need a sensored motor.
