i am doing an electric conversion on a slayer and want to know if i should use the mechanical brakes or strip them off and run the the motor brakes? Witch is more reliable for racing and give better braking?

I could be wrong but if you strip off the mechanical brakes and put on mechanical brakes instead you are still running mechanical brakes.

You'll get a little more run-time with mechanical brakes...

I found, on my Jato, that, the mechanical brakes didn't stop as good as the using the motor... But my brakes were worn out and kind of sucked

I needed to do the single speed conversion on mine, to use the motor brakes...

Does the Slash have a multi-speed transmission?
If it does, you will need mechanical brakes.

Ok sorry i messed up in the original question. The conversion kit i am using in a nitro slayer says that you can keep the original mechanical brakes that the old nitro motor used. Since i am converting to BL i was wondering if i should keep the servo and brake disc or just strip it all off and use the BL motor brakes?

I would think that the mechanical brake is going to give you more stopping power then the motor brake. It personal pref on the weight savings is worth it or more braking is worth more.

Brakes are over rated! Just do what I do and use the wall or other peoples trucks as brakes.

of course you need brakes You must break parts..


I'd leave the brake system alone, this will not only increase your run time with your batteries, but it will also add weight for traction. Most 1/8 Nitro to electric conversions allow you to use the mechanical brake system over the motor system. This allows you for quick easy adjustment when dialing your brakes in. However, I feel that for any 2wd that the brake system within the motor is sufficient.
