Default Batteries

I am going to pick up a slash soon at my local hobby shop. I dont have the extra money for lipo batteries right now so I am wondering what is the next best battery to get for it. I think they said they have 6 cell nimh for like 25 bucks a peice, does that sound right? Is there any other battery that has a decent run time and good performance besides lipo? I am a beginner so can somebody tell me what the big deal with lipo batteries are, thanks.

With lipo first the last longer in life, easier for the basher to charge all day with no fade in performance.the down side is you need a lipo cut off,if you don't you will ruin it the first time out by running it to low, second you need a lipo charger to charge it.if you are unfamiliar with lipos go and talk to guys at your track/hobby shop.with nimh you can get 4200 from different companies for about 40-50$ it sound like he is selling you some 1800-3300 for that price

With the 4200 nimh batteries, what would be the typical run time if the truck was being run hard, and what are the prices of comparable lipo batteries?

for the 40-50 you would spend on 1 decent Nimh pack that you can only run 2 times a day you can get some Yeah racing li-pos that you could charge and run over and over in a days time. go to ultraline hobbies. he carrys them in stock . He also has a couple threads on here discussing the yeah batteries.

The YEAH packs are actually pretty decent.

Even a couple of these Orions ($35) wouldn't be a bad deal for a slash.

heck yeah those would be great for a newb running a stock slash. And at 2400mah you could actually get 6 minute races out of them (I only use between 900-1200mah out of my lipos in 6 min.)and still have decent punch towards the end of the run.

I first bout the Duratrax 4200's for my E-Maxx and use them in my Slash. They are a good battery. If you don't want to go Lipo, the best NimH I have found are Spec Point Concepts (http://spcracing.com). They are pricey, but have a lot of punch and good run times.

A lot of good points about Lipo for the long haul though, I am still just nervous and have two Duratrax Piranha's that I don't want to part with yet.
