Reversing the starter box motor

I have the big pink Ofna 1/8 box with the 12 volt motor. What I want to do is reverse the starter motor. How would I go about this?

I tried this but all I got was shorting out the power supply. This means I'm not doing it correctly, so can you elaborate on that?
I'm electric inept.
