Gel Cells do go bad, its what is used in the model of UPS that we have here at work and they go bad quite often. but are easy and failry cheap to replace.

either ive gotten bad luck or theres something im doing wrong.
i have used two different 12 gel cells and none of them hold a charge anymore. they worked when delivered but after the first recharge they are incapable of turning over the motor. im using a dynamite mega 1 charger for the batter
any help or insight into the problem would be appreciated

i did use them right out of the package with out charging them because they both had a full 12v charge in them

A battery - or any other source - may read 12v on your meter, but it may actually be about dead. Voltage can drop quickly when you put a load on it, if the source lacks the current to sustain it.

id like to put a lipo in my starter box. What is the best way to check voltage. I know I can use a volt meter, but the last thing I need is another item to haul to the track. Is there some kind of mini volt meter or maybe a small digital voltage display I can add to the side of my starter box. I have the OFNA box that has the battery checker on it, could I just use that?

Deep cycle bats like to be drained all the way down and then trickel charged, they don't like to be charged fast and when they drop a cell r no longer any good and won't hold a charge. On your instrucktions it says charge over night before useing this is to condition the battery.
Just a little tip from years of useing deep cycle battery in a boat trolling motor, trickel charge is the key to longer life and packing a better charge.
