540 (Johnson) Motor Gearing
My motor is getting incredibly hot and as I have heard it is not that good. I currently have a 96T spur and 58T spur but the motor is still getting really hot.
What can I do?
It was recommended for the track I run a 41mm rollout, currently I have a 46 rollout.

Whe you say hot. What do you mean? If you are around the 140f mark you should be fine. Going down in spur teeth will give you a higher rollout. Same goes if you increase your pinion.

dude, what car are you running? motor overheats due to over geared ratio, Johnson 540 can gear tall for higher top end but not over doing it.

If you have the standard centre pulleys that come with the Cyclone S (16T) then your cars internal ratio is 2.437.
Then you should get 48pitch gears , it sounds like your pinion & spur and 64pitch
In 48 pitch (which are easier to get Locally) you should get a 68Tooth Spur Gear(the big one) and a 36 Tooth Pinion gear (one on the motor).
this will give you a rollout of 43mm.
Eventually you should get more pinions in 48 pitch pinions to adjust ratio if needed, like get say a 34t, 35t, 37t, 38t, 39t.
this will get you all the rollouts that will ever be needed for 540 silver can racing.
Also if you are new and built the car yourself, get a local racer to check it out for you , because it sounds like a cvd or belt or bearing or something may be binding in the car which will be loading the motor and overheating it no matter what rollout you run.
You should be able to run up to a 45-46mm rollout without over heating your motor, so something must be binding, or the motor is already tosted.
Are you running the Johnson grey ended motor? or the johnson chrome can with a black end?
The cyclone can not run a gear combo lower than a total of about 101 tooth when you add the pinion and spur teeth together When running 48 pitch gears off course.
this should help you out.
