So far a BIG fan of this setup. This weekend was the first time I fired this little beast up and nothing but grins the whole time. Got to track at about 9am and had a few hours to break it in before first qual. I did the 4minute heat cycle method for about 30 minutes keeping it at around 200...then ran a full tank through again close to 200. I was a little leery about racing an engine that I had fired for the first time that morning but wth...no guts no glory. First off...during break in there wasn't a single glitch. Of course the needles were set fat but never too much to be a problem. I ended up running in two 5 min qual's, 15 min B main (hey..its my 2nd race ever) then a 20 minute A main (got 1st in B so bumped). I took it a bit easy on it never really going full throttle and still was able to hang with others and pull out a 3rd place. I can imagine once I had the race tune dialed (still a bit rich through all races) this is going to be a great motor. The only flame out was in the B main and for still having it a bit rich I was very happy. Two thumbs up so far.

Descent power, but no-go on run times. I use mine when my +4 is down, but I really preffer the +4. Not a bad engine though, just can't get the minutes out of it.

MC9 is the cold plug. I'm not sure if it will idle good and be snappy at low speed. You probably will be better off with Medium-Hot plugs.

Dynamite's Platinum line seems to be very good for the money and the parts are abundant, I don't think you could go wrong.

Does anyone know the out of box needle settings? or at least what you have found is a pretty solid tune. Someone fudged around with my needles and did more damage than good and now Im chasing it back to solid tune. Im close to where it needs to be just rich on the low end I believe. Id like to bring all needles back to stock and start from there.

I get excellent economy from my engine(s) - what pipe are you using???

I use both the Losi R11 and OS 2050 - either work well and I get GREAT economy - 11 minutes in my RC8T under racing conditions!

I am told brand of fuel can make a difference - can't prove anything because I've run Sidewinder Worlds 30% for longer then I've run these engines - it always works well for me!

Mine is on the way and I can't wait to get it. I'm a little concerned as it seems run time is an issue but it is what it is.

I'm going to use a high torque pipe as I believe the 9 ports wont give me quite the oomph I need on the short, tight tracks I run.

If you have the engine with the normal mid needle try these settings. ( the needle without the recess)

Low 2 full turns from bottom
Mid 1 and 1/8 turns from bottom
High 1 and 5/8 from bottom.

This is for off road with a 053 pipe/30%/8-9% oil content with the R5 plug. It should get you close. If you find that it is too fat on the bottom you might have the modded mid needle.

I've got this mill and I am ecstatic about it. It runs like it owes me money and I haven't even got a great tune on it yet.

Hopefully weather permitting this weekend will be my first race with it. I can't wait to see how it stands up against all the "big boys".

thanks...thats what i was thinking as well. about to tune with the r5 plug in it and cant wait to run it at race tune...it screams...are you seeing this run hotter/average or normal temp range? I dont tune to temp usually...ears and eyes and feel are what I use but I'd like to know where the sweet spot is.
