Default Aluminum Slipper Shaft and Gear for the XXX-NT

on the team losi site they say this is a very important peice for a serious racer and it improves accelleration. i dont see how such a small thing can make such a big difference to performance.

Any other thoughts on this?

A lightweight top shaft set up is doing two things.

1-- weight saving. rotating mass is equal to twice the weight of chassis weight, so if you save half an ounce in the drive train, your getting the same affects of taking a full ounce off the chassis.

2-- throttle response. A lighter transmision gives you a more proportianate power band with out any extra power lag caused by weight.... in theory this will give you more controll over the car.

Very much so. I run a XXXT with the hardened aluminum top shaft, plastic outdrives, lightened slipper plates, and aluminum CVD's, and I'll never go back to the heavy stuff! Acceleration is extremely crisp, almost disturbingly crisp, and top speed is markedly improved.
